What's the maximum duration of a study visa in the United States?
2. Once you enter the United States, if you have an f- 1 visa, you can stay in the United States for up to 8 years. Even if the visa has expired before, there is no need to extend it; If you hold the m- 1 visa, you can stay in the United States for a maximum of 1 year, but you must meet the following conditions:
(1) You must be admitted to a study plan.
(2) The Immigration Department does not think that the time for you to finish your studies is unreasonable. The Immigration Bureau judges that the required time is unreasonable according to the following criteria:
A. A study plan that can be completed in only two years takes two and a half years to complete.
B, 4 to 5 years It takes only 2 to 4 years to complete the study plan.
C. Learning plans that can be completed in more than 4 years can be completed in more than 5 years.
(3) Because you have exceeded the reasonable time considered by the Immigration Department, or because your maximum allowed residence period (f- 1 student 8 years, m- 1 student 1 year) has expired, you can apply for an extension. In order to get an extension, you must explain that you have successfully registered for an approved study plan and have sufficient reasons to explain why you need extra time to complete your studies.
If you have finished your studies or finished your studies, you must leave the United States. If you have an F-/KLOC-0 visa, you can leave the country within 60 days. If you have an m- 1 visa, you must leave the country within 30 days. Your school must report the fact that you are no longer accepted by the school to the Immigration Bureau.
The longest student visa is five years, but in some countries, local citizens can't get such a long student visa. For example, local citizens in Chinese mainland can only get a student visa for six months; Hong Kong local citizens can get a four-year student visa.
Please note that the validity of a visa for six months means that you can only enter the country within six months, not just stay in the United States for six months. You can get an i-94 card stamped with the word "d/s" when you enter the country, just like student visa holders in other countries, which means you can still stay in the United States until you finish your studies. You should also understand that although your visa will expire in six months, as long as you have an i-94 card stamped with "d/s" and return to the United States within 30 days, you can still leave the United States for Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, Bahamas or any Caribbean island without a visa.
