The army makes good people: hard devil training

On May 2nd, a graduation ceremony was held at the Royal Canadian Army Training Base on the shores of Toronto Lake. More than 160 students completed two months of hard military training in purgatory and became Canadian reservists with honor. A handsome China soldier in the team is listening carefully to Colonel Stafo rol's instructions. He remembered a meaningful sentence from the chief: "If you can succeed in the Canadian army, you can succeed in any field, and all difficulties will be invincible!"

Liu Yushi, a soldier from China, came to Canada with his parents six years ago. Although he is still a high school student in East Valley Middle School, he is also a clarinet player in the Royal Canadian Regime Band.

After the graduation ceremony, I had a pleasant talk with Liu Yushi out of interest in the mysterious military life. I found that, perhaps after a hard and fulfilling military life, although Liu Yushi was only 19 years old, he had got rid of the impetuousness and childishness of middle school students and was a calm and confident man.

The clarinet opened his childhood.

Liu Yushi, male, 1985, was born in the northeast of China. When he was ten years old, his father, who was working in Singapore at that time, brought him a musical instrument-clarinet as a gift, and told him to practice hard and master a skill, which he would use later. Zhou Tai, a teacher found by his parents, who is known as the first clarinet player in Northeast China, began to learn clarinet.

Like all children of the same age, Xiaoyu wanted to go out and play football with his friends, but at the urging of his parents, he spent a lot of spare time practicing clarinet. Liu Yushi said that learning music at that time was not confident, and it was totally passive. He is studying for his parents and Professor Zhou Tai. He can't play well and is afraid of being scolded.

In the fourth grade of primary school, the school organizes bands, and the music teacher selects students by subjective judgment. Because Shi Yu was thin and was not selected, Xiao Yu was very lost. Later, when the teacher learned that he was a student of Zhou Tai, he accepted him, which made him join the band for the first time and became an excellent clarinet player in the band. He was also selected into the primary school band affiliated to Shenyang Conservatory of Music, and toured in three northeastern provinces, which received enthusiastic response. At that time, Jia Xin, a "young piano genius" with the same fame as Lang Lang, accompanied Yu Shi's clarinet solo. His performance was very successful and won the praise of experts.

In Canada, specialty products have played a role.

From 65438 to 0998, his family immigrated to Canada. When Toronto Education Bureau learned that Yu Shi had expertise in music, it recommended him to Winona Dr.P.S., a music college. After staying in Winona for more than a year, Yu Shi feels that his expertise has been recognized and will be put to good use. He said that if learning clarinet in China is completely passive, then after coming to Canada, it has gradually become a major activity, which has aroused the enthusiasm for music. Plus, knowing some friends who engage in music, I feel that there is a good music atmosphere here, and it will be fun to master a music skill.

200 1 After entering high school, Yu Shi joined the school band and met an excellent music teacher. The music teacher appreciated Yu Shi's musical accomplishment and recommended him to join his part-time Royal Army Military Orchestra. After strict examination and examination, Shi Yu was formally accepted as a member of the military orchestra at the end of 2002.

The Royal Canadian Army Military Orchestra was founded in 1863. It is the earliest military orchestra in Canada and a world-famous military orchestra. At many important festivals and protocol ceremonies, you can see them wearing tall bearskin hats and crimson uniforms.

Shi Yu told me that only by joining such a professional music group can I feel the gap in my business. Therefore, during more than a year in the military orchestra, he learned a lot of music knowledge in professional training, which made his music literacy and playing skills get the fastest improvement. He performed with the group for many times, made CDs and participated in the "World Military Music Festival" held in Quebec City.

Hard devil training

Joining a military band requires enlistment procedures, and after about two months of recruit training, you can become a reserve. In fact, every Canadian citizen under the age of 45 who has no criminal history and has landed as a permanent resident can sign up for recruit training, but only after passing the exam can he be admitted, but he must be a Canadian citizen to become a Canadian soldier.

Yu Shi said that the assessment of recruits includes three aspects: intelligence, physical fitness and health tests. Intelligent assessment mainly depends on intelligence level and reaction ability to determine the arms that suit you, which is relatively easy to pass; It was difficult to pass the physical fitness test, and five out of six people were eliminated. For example, after you do 20 push-ups, measure your pulse and heartbeat, and measure the grip strength index. Many people can't meet the standard. The health test depends on your health status, including medical history and allergy history.

He said that recruit training is the basic training of all arms, and it is designed in full accordance with actual combat requirements. Its process is a test of people's will, psychology, physical fitness and intelligence. They have experienced high-intensity continuous work of 0/5 or 6 hours per day, spent the night in the field full of insects, ate packaged food that was difficult to swallow, marched with a weight of 80 kg/0/3 km, looked for targets only by the compass at night, entered the gas chamber simulating biochemical weapons attacks, and trained in camouflage ambush for hours in the harsh environment in the field, and so on. Many training programs are unbearable for ordinary people.

Yu Shi told me some unforgettable stories during their training. On one occasion, his team completed a task of finding a target in the wild at night. You know, it's ten times harder to find a target at night than during the day. You can't use lighting tools such as flashlights or speak loudly. You can't lose a person just by the topographic map and compass in your hand. At that time, they got lost and groped in thorns and dark fields. Finally, the headquarters sent a signal flare to get out of the predicament. They haven't slept for more than 20 hours.

A trip to hell on earth

Gas chamber training is also cruel. Even if people hold their breath after entering the gas chamber, poisonous gas will enter the body through the five senses, and the skin will hurt like a knife. You need to wear a protective mask in the shortest possible time. Many people vomit, and vomit will fill the mask and throw it away before putting it on. That poisonous smell can be smelled for days, and I have no appetite to eat.

During military training, I usually get up at five in the morning and rest at twelve in the evening. Due to high-intensity physical exertion, many people quit halfway, so one-fifth of them were eliminated. In order to meet the needs of modern warfare, soldiers must have extraordinary perseverance and rigorous quality. For example, camouflage ambush, specially choose the unexpected environment of the enemy, such as ponds and ditches, and stay still for several hours, so that the enemy will never be aware of it two meters away, and at the same time, you can't leave any traces after evacuating in the wild. Yu Shi also said that he has developed the ability to sleep with his eyes open in class.

Military camp life has also cultivated a strong team spirit. Instructors have repeatedly stressed that the individual's ability in war is limited, and we must rely on the collective strength to establish the concept of "live and die together." Therefore, hard training has also strengthened the friendship between comrades. In the training of climbing a big truck, facing the smooth car body without any handrails, only the comrades reached out a ladder and sent people up one by one, and then formed a chain to pass them on. On another occasion, when crossing the iron fence, a comrade-in-arms was pierced by a sharp iron bar. He insisted on continuing the following training program and finally couldn't walk. It was Yu Shi who trained behind his back. Yu Shi said that the difficulties and pressures in actual combat are unimaginable and can only be overcome through mutual help.

Be interested in the film and television industry

Yu Shi passed the basic military training and became a reserve soldier. He talked about his future plans. He said that he doesn't want to be a professional soldier yet, although he loves military life and will receive a higher level of training.

After completing basic training, Canadian soldiers can further study according to their arms to meet the requirements of various arms. The first level is the training of special forces (JTF). It is said that more than a dozen people who have participated in the training can pass. Yu Shi plans to complete the training of Canadian paratroopers. After passing the basic training, he thinks that he still has physical space and can withstand the next test. In addition, he hopes to contact and use more weapons and equipment.

Musically, he continued to be a musician in a military band and participated in the activities of the Toronto All-Star Jazz Band composed of high school students. He is the clarinet player in the band.

These are not his final career choices. Yu Shi revealed his wishes to me. I've always wanted to set foot in the film and television industry, engaged in film and television directing, production and performance, and made efforts in this respect. He said that he is enriching his life experience and laying a good foundation for his future career. For example, if he directs a war film in the future, his military life experience will be true, because he is familiar with the details of weapons and equipment and knows more about the mental state and thoughts of soldiers in the war.

Although Yu Shi can talk fluently in Chinese, many times he can't fully express himself in Chinese vocabulary, so I didn't quote him. However, he gave an example to properly express his life pursuit: the life trajectory of many China students, like a streetcar, follows the trajectory arranged by their parents and has no initiative at all; I want to be a bus with a steering wheel in my life and control my own direction. Therefore, he decided not to go to college after graduating from high school. After working in the film industry for a period of time, he set his goal and then entered the university to study film and television.
