How did Dalian get its name?

The place name of Dalian is the transliteration of "Darini". "Darini" is Russian, which means "far away". The origin of "Darini" is that after Dalian became a Russian concession, it was named Darini and opened as a free trade port according to the order of Tsar Nicholas. Later, it was changed to Dalian.

First of all, the name of Dalian originated from Dalian Bay and began in modern times. In the sixth year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (1880), Li Hongzhang, Minister of Beiyang, mentioned "Dalian Bay" in the "Notes on the Construction Planning of Dalian Bay Military Port".
