The latest policy of German refugees: Why do refugees go to Germany?
[Germany takes precedence]
The authorities provide free accommodation and pocket money.
On the 4th of this month, Germany temporarily decided to allow a large number of Syrian refugees stranded in Hungary to enter the country. In the following days, a large number of refugees entered Germany by train, car and even on foot, which became the headlines of major media reports.
In fact, Germany has long been the first choice for refugees to enter Europe, and it is also the country that accepts the largest number of refugees among EU member States. The German government predicts that by the end of this year, Germany will receive about 800,000 asylum applications, far exceeding the estimated 450,000 at the beginning of this year.
In an interview with Xinhua News Agency, Zhao Chen, director of the European Political Office of the European Institute of China Academy of Social Sciences, said that a large number of refugees preferred Germany as their destination because they could get good treatment and security there, including free accommodation, partial cash subsidies and better employment opportunities.
More importantly, Germany's refugee management is relatively standardized, and special bills such as Germany: Refugee Application Procedure Law and Asylum-seeking Welfare Law have been issued, so that there are rules to follow.
According to the regulations, after arriving in Germany, refugees can apply for asylum at the reception center, register their personal information, fingerprints and photos, obtain temporary residency and become "asylum seekers". Subsequently, the German authorities will review the asylum applications one by one and make a decision on whether to grant refugee status in about five months. During this period, Germany will provide free accommodation for "asylum seekers" and distribute basic living expenses and pocket money.
Asylum seekers were banned from working for the first three months. After that, they can work under the permission of the Immigration Bureau and the Federal Employment Bureau, but they are subject to certain restrictions.
Zhao Chen believes that many Syrian refugees who have recently entered Germany belong to the middle class. They not only know English, but also have certain professional skills. In Germany, where the unemployment rate is low and the aging is serious, these high-quality refugees have better employment prospects.
In addition, in the face of the tide of refugees that shows no signs of abating, Germany has shown fatigue and has begun to call on other European countries to share the responsibility.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said at a press conference on the 7th that Germany had a "busy weekend" ... what we are experiencing now will change our country. She stressed that meeting the challenges requires the joint efforts of the country and the people, and also requires the EU to be more United.
Gabriel, German Deputy Chancellor, also said at the press conference that dealing with this refugee tide is Germany's "biggest challenge since reunification", and Europe cannot rely on only a few countries such as Germany and Sweden to accept a large number of refugees. We need a different European refugee policy.
The general principles of the package of measures to deal with the refugee tide announced by the German government on the morning of the 7 th include speeding up the procedures of refugee approval, resettlement or repatriation, and urging the EU to formulate unified refugee regulations so that all member States can share the responsibility.
