Most people think it's from Ningbo! But strangely, in Haining, Tongxiang Mazhen, these western towns have also come to represent us!

Let's talk about Shanghai first

The history of Shanghai dialect is only over 700 years, much shorter than Suzhou dialect and Songjiang dialect, but Shanghai dialect is a distinctive dialect, which is determined by Shanghai's unique geographical environment and historical opportunities. It turns out that Shanghai is located at the beach head of the Yangtze River Delta, and the so-called "Shanghai Beach" is the most appropriate name for it. It is a remote rural place far from the government and on the edge of economically developed areas. Suzhou and Jiaxing are two big houses in history, with developed economy and prosperous culture, but Songjiang is relatively backward and Shanghai is near the beach, so as far as Songjiang dialect is concerned, it develops slowly in Taihu Lake area, and Shanghai dialect is even older. Many ancient sounds and characters left by Songjiang dialect are preserved. However, facing the East China Sea, Shanghai has encountered a special opportunity. 1843 after Shanghai was forced to open its port, it became a free-developing concession with a long period of civil autonomy, making Shanghai quickly become an international metropolis and financial center. With the huge immigration and the rapid economic development, Shanghai dialect has become the fastest-growing language in Wuyu area of Taihu Lake. In the past 150 years, Shanghai dialect has developed by leaps and bounds with the development of Shanghai. In just two or three generations, we can see that some components of Shanghainese dialect have changed significantly, which is unique in the history of modern language development in China.

There was no word "Allah" in Shanghai more than 100 years ago.

100 years ago, people in Ningbo said "Haila" (sound: referring to us) and "Henu" (me).

Let's talk about Haining again. As for Tongxiang Mazhen, Deqing used to be in charge. It's really hard to verify now!

Shortly after the opening of Shanghai in the late Qing Dynasty, the population increased sharply, accounting for about 80% of the immigrants entering Shanghai, diluting the Shanghai dialect similar to Songjiang. At that time, there were three Haining people: Chen Qiyuan, Zhang, and successively served as the magistrate of Shanghai. Chen Zhi County also dredged the Wusong River channel about 6 miles long from Caojiadu to the new gate of Dawangmiao. Before and after Hongyang, many Haining people contributed to the development of Shanghai. Among them, Xu Hongkui and his strength were very strong, and "Xu Garden" was one of the few famous gardens in Shanghai at that time. And Xu Shenru (the father of the poet Xu Zhimo) is also a famous industrialist; Du, the famous godfather of Shanghai School, is also from Haining ... The three avenues in Shanghai: Fada Road (now Nanjing Road) and avenue joffre Road (now Huaihai Road) are all foreign concessions, and only Haining Road shows the national temperament of China. It serves to show the position of Haining people in people's minds! "Allah" has become the main language of Xinhai people for a reason.

Later, Ningbo people went to Shanghai to study and do business, learned to speak the new Shanghainese dialect (including "Allah"), and brought it back to Ningbo before the word "Allah" came into being.
