Is the official language of Taiwan Province Province the same as Mandarin in Chinese mainland?
The Kuomintang ruled Taiwan Province Province, emphasizing Chinese culture and traditional concepts, and vigorously promoting Mandarin education. After decades of operation, almost everyone in Taiwan Province Province can speak Mandarin. It's just that there are some differences between Taiwan Province Mandarin and mainland Mandarin. The pronunciation of Taiwan Province Putonghua is generally softer than that of mainland Putonghua (I don't know if this expression is appropriate), but this does not hinder the language exchange between people on both sides of the strait.
During the period of 1949, the Kuomintang moved to Taiwan, bringing millions of mainlanders. These mainlanders and their descendants became "mainlanders" in Taiwan Province Province today, while the locals in Taiwan Province Province (mostly descendants of Fujian immigrants for centuries) were called "natives". "Outsiders" mostly live in the north of Taiwan Province Island (North Taiwan Province Province), especially in Taipei, while "locals" are mostly in South Taiwan Province Province. As mentioned earlier, almost everyone in Taiwan Province Province can speak Mandarin today, but the local complex in South Taiwan Province Province is very heavy, so people in South Taiwan Province Province are more exclusive to Mandarin, and the frequency of using Mandarin in South Taiwan Province is lower than that in North Taiwan Province Province.
There are also Gaoshan people in Taiwan Province Province. They fall into two types. One is the Gaoshan people who live in cities and have been assimilated. They have basically lost their mother tongue and have been sinicized in language, clothing and lifestyle. There are also Gaoshan people who live in mountainous areas and have not been assimilated. They still retain their own national characteristics in language, clothing and lifestyle. The language of Gaoshan people belongs to Malay-Polynesian language family (Austronesian language family).
In today's Taiwan Province Province, Fujian immigrants usually speak Minnan dialect and Hakka dialect, while Guangdong immigrants speak Cantonese. With the exception of a few Gaoshan people, all the residents of Taiwan Province Island immigrated from the mainland. This process mainly started in the late Ming dynasty, and then the real large-scale migration began. During 1949, the Kuomintang moved to Taiwan, bringing millions of mainlanders, which can be regarded as another climax of immigration, and this immigration has profoundly changed the population composition and language situation in Taiwan Province Province. Judging from the number of people, the descendants of Fujian immigrants are the most, so in Taiwan Province Province, apart from Mandarin, Minnan dialect is the most heard. I once saw a movie in Taiwan Province province, in which a girl spoke sweet Mandarin at school and changed it to Minnan dialect when she got home. Even when she talks to her parents, she speaks Mandarin and Minnan dialect together, and so do her parents. This situation should be more common in Taiwan Province province.
