Joseph mengle's wartime experience
On June 1940 and 15, josef mengele was transferred to the National Defence Force. He first served in the ninth auxiliary medical reserve battalion of the army. Shortly thereafter, as a member of SS, he joined SS voluntarily, and began to work in the Immigration Center in Posen from August of the same year 1 1.
194 1 At the beginning of the year or in the early summer of the same year, mengle entered the newly-built 5. SS-Pionier-Bataillon 5, and participated in the Soviet-German war with this unit. In various battles, mengle won many awards and was promoted to rank many times. The author thinks that it is very unlikely that mengle worked for the doctors of the SS and the police during this period. But as far as its performance on the battlefield is concerned, mengle is quite good as a doctor. Although I hate to admit it, I have to believe the truth. After all, the reward of the army's fire line is not so easy to get.
1943 65438+ 10, mengle, who had recovered from serious war injuries, was classified as unfit for fighting and transferred to the SS infantry reserve in Dongying (SS- Infantry -Ersatz-Bataillon Ost) in Berlin. Regarding this transfer, the author thinks that it is largely not mengle's own will. At least, he didn't report to the army until long after the transfer was issued. Of course, this is only a personal guess, and there is no definite evidence. There, he began to work for the Department of Anthropology at Kaiser-William College, when his head of anthropology was his tutor Professor Fu Shuer. ( 1943- 1945)
1943 In May, doctor Beno Adolf of Auschwitz-Birkenau Gypsy Concentration Camp retired due to illness, while at that time, Dr. mengle, who was in the reserve and had been promoted to the rank of SS, was a very good successor. There is another issue worth discussing here: Although mengle has repeatedly stressed that he asked for a transfer voluntarily, he has never seen his application in the numerous applications for transfer in the reserve camp, and he has never seen anything uncomfortable about this "voluntary job search" in his comfortable life, so on the whole, this transfer is just an "opportunity" for him to display.
1943 On May 30th, Joseph mengle officially started his work in Auschwitz. It must be emphasized again that although mengle is the most famous, he is not the chief medical officer of the entire Auschwitz concentration camp. He is only a member of the medical officer team. The highest-ranking doctor in Auschwitz concentration camp was SS captain Wilt, who was the chief medical officer of the SS camp in 1 September, 9421Japan.
However, mengle is indeed the attending medical officer, and his territory is a small part of the gypsy camp, which is called the camp. Although the scope of his rights was still very small at first, his promotion opportunity appeared after the complete elimination of all gypsies in custody. He successfully took over the leadership of the so-called medical camp for detainees, which means that he has become a group of chief medical officers who can directly slaughter.
The scope of Dr. mengle's duties has nothing to do with real doctors. On the surface, as a doctor in a concentration camp, he should be responsible for the medical treatment of the detainees in the concentration camp, the hygiene of the concentration camp and the possible epidemic situation, but in the Auschwitz destruction camp, everyone exists for one purpose, that is, killing people, not saving people, even doctors. They are responsible for assisting the work of gas chambers, standardizing execution and corporal punishment, supervising the classification and selection of personnel, and personally injecting phenolic venom into the hearts of detainees (nicknamed "Abspritzen", which means cutting off the tip) and so on. Perhaps the only job that can be regarded as a regular doctor's profession is to issue death certificates, but they are not only for the dead, but also happy to do it for the living.
This contradiction is more obvious in the "attending" hospitals in mengle. On the one hand, they should treat detainees with extreme, extreme and minor diseases so that these workers can return to work quickly; On the other hand, they choose all detainees who are seriously ill or seriously injured and destroy them as soon as possible.
Mengle's most important work scope: grading selection and living experiment.
As a battalion-level attending medical officer, mengle never showed any guilt or hesitation in his work. It seems that all this is a compulsory course he has learned in medical study. It is estimated that all comrades in arms should have seen the so-called grading selection in the movie. The decision made by one person in just a few seconds can decide the life and death of dozens of people. But what mengle likes is not this kind of quick decision, but that he is particularly willing to personally know something about his "patients" and then make his life-and-death judgment. That's why, among all the survivors, I was so impressed by the horror of mengle! Moreover, all the people who survived the average three-month "life span" of mengle camp have deep fear and disgust for opera, because mengle won't forget his beloved phonograph in this extremely "easy" job!
Compared with in vivo experiments, this graded choice may be considered as a more humane way of death. The real origin of the name angel of death on mengle's head is mainly due to his various human experiments. Although it is nothing unusual to do experiments on living people in Nazi concentration camps, how many specimens in the herbarium of Heidelberg, Frankfurt and Berlin Medical University have no "origin", it is estimated that from that astronomical figure, everyone can understand that this kind of medical experiment is very common.
As an expert in anthropology and genetics, mengle's main direction is the study of twins, which is what he is best at. After he took charge of the battalion medical officer, he immediately began to make full use of Auschwitz's "personnel advantage". In almost less than a month, he gathered hundreds of twins, most of whom were children. Later, the name of the so-called angel of death can actually be understood as the butcher of angels.
In this camp of death, mengle's research has no moral or human constraints. Without any anesthetic measures, his various medically meaningless experimental operations and intentional injection of infected patients pushed his "experiment" to a dead end, and at the same time made him among the top research experts in various "scientific" magazines of anthropology in the Third Reich. In German mainland, many similar researchers are extremely envious of mengle's research results, many of whom were invited to visit Auschwitz, and their various "clinical" research results were widely spread. It is precisely for this reason that the author has great reservations about various countries in the 1940s and 1950s, especially the United States, which looted the Heidelberg Museum of Medical Research, and the Soviet Union, which destroyed the medical database of the William Institute in Berlin, and all kinds of research progress in human genes and morphology in the two countries at that time. Who knows how many little-known backgrounds are behind this glamorous achievement?
The military doctor who withdrew from the front line of the battlefield due to injury opened another era of Auschwitz concentration camp.
Mengle "wiped out" as many prisoners as possible who could not work, and conducted "race improvement" experiments with living people in a cruel way. About 400,000 innocent lives were tragically killed by him, most of them Jews. He once forced his victims to receive drug injections to change the color of their eyes or sterilize them; He also inoculated the living with viruses and bacteria, and amputated their limbs and organs without anesthesia.
The doctor of medicine who asked the children to call him "good uncle" in the laboratory used those innocent children to carry out terrible experiments. He lured the children with food and bread to get their cooperation.
His behavior was spurned by people. Joseph mengle's theory is: "People, like dogs, have lineages. Some people have cultivated excellent dogs in the laboratory, and I can also cultivate excellent races in it. " Meng Le's killing policy is very strange. For example, he drew a line from the ground 150 to 156 cm, and all the children whose height is not within these two lines were sent to the gas chamber. Occasionally, Meng Le would commit suicide. He is a natural neat freak and perfectionist. He sent people with spots and small scars on their skin (such as those left by appendectomy) to the gas chamber. The thin man always combs his hair meticulously, the dark green Nazi uniform is always flat and hot, his military boots are polished, and his eyes are staring at his "prey" like an eagle. He kept waving a scepter with white gloves in his hand. The "prey" is divided into two columns, the left column is executed and the right column is left behind.
His most famous experiment is about the eyeball. Mengle injected pigment into the eyes of the children who were not anesthetized, and most of them went blind. Needless to say, that kind of heartbreaking pain. According to another concentration camp doctor, "1In September 1943, when I came to the gypsy camp, I saw a wooden table full of eyeballs. All these eyeballs are labeled and numbered. The colors of eyeballs are light yellow, light blue, green and purple. " Even more frightening is the pressure chamber test. The prisoners were put into a pressure chamber, and their breathing was recorded in detail until their death. The great pressure in the pressure chamber often makes the prisoner's body cling to the bulkhead, or suffocate, or his lungs burst and die. Survivors recalled that in Auschwitz, smiling "Uncle mengle" brought them candy and clothes. Then they were taken to a big truck or his private car painted with the Red Cross logo and sent directly to the medical laboratory.
It is almost impossible to accurately determine the number of victims killed by Joseph mengle. When mengle was transferred to Auschwitz, the whole destruction plan had started for some time, but it did not reach the highest efficiency, so the time limit must be taken into account when calculating the quantity. How many people were sent to the gas chamber in the grading selection, or how many people died on the experimental platform in the living experiment, these can only be roughly estimated. The latest survey shows that the number of victims in Auschwitz concentration camp is about1100000. However, mengle is not the only doctor in charge of grading selection. Even in the exclusive camp he is in charge of, there are other doctors to assist him. And perhaps Auschwitz refers to a rather complicated concentration camp, in which many affiliated concentration camps, such as Auschwitz-Monowitt labor camp, suffer every day.
But according to the experimental data of the living, according to mengle's experimental report and paper materials, there are at least five figures of the dead murdered by him personally or directly, and even six! Although there is no accurate data on the number of twin deaths, it can be well estimated by comparison. Since the highest confirmed number of twins is 350 pairs, this is the data of 1944 in midsummer.
However, in the large-scale relocation and walking in 1945 and 1 year, the number of twins can still be maintained at about 72 pairs. Of course, in the transport train, new twins are sent to Auschwitz and handed over to mengle every day. Among nearly 1500 pairs of twins, that is, about 3,000 people, only about 80 to 100 pairs of twins in mengle's hands survived. And this figure can be said to be the most "appropriate".
One survivor recalled his twin brother: "Dr. mengle was very interested in Olysky. He performed several operations on Olysky, one of which paralyzed him and never stood up again. Later, the doctor removed his sex organs. After the fourth operation, I never saw Olysky again ... "But when the survivors of Auschwitz woke up one day in 1945, they found that all the SS had disappeared, including Meng Le. He disappeared forever with the help of his mistress, a Jewish woman born in a rich family ... but people still suspect that this may be a scam. Until 1992, when the DNA extracted from the remains was compared with the blood sample DNA obtained from Meng Le's widow, it was finally concluded: "This is indeed the remains of Joseph mengle."
