Mauritania, located in the northwest of Africa, lies between 15-27 degrees north latitude and 5- 17 degrees west longitude, with an area of 1030700 square kilometers. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean in the west, Western Sahara and Algeria in the north, Mali in the southeast and Senegal across the river in the south.
