Shanghai is at least 1 from Ningbo, like me. My grandfather was born in Ningbo. When he was young, he came to work in a silver shop in Shanghai. His brother's home is still in Ningbo.

I was born in Shanghai after 1980. My generation generally knows my ancestral home. Many friends from other places asked me questioningly, "Are you a native of Shanghai?" In fact, in Shanghai, "locals" refer to aborigines such as suburban people and Songjiang, while Shanghainese in the urban area immigrated from Jiangnan before liberation, so I replied: "I am not a local, I am from Ningbo." Friends from other places will not understand and ask, "So you are not from Shanghai?" I am speechless: "No, I am from Shanghai, but I am from Ningbo, Shanghai." Foreign friends: "It's so complicated ..."

Since childhood, most of the students who fill out the form and ask to write the column of ancestral home are Ningbo citizens. At that time, the atmosphere in Shanghai seemed to be that Shanghainese of Ningbo descent rejected Su Beiren. And judging from the parents' teaching, all the friends around me are proud of Ningbo nationality. I have never been to Ningbo since I was a child, but I feel very cordial when I see the word Ningbo on TV or in the newspaper. Probably rooted in Ningbo.

Some foreign friends say that Shanghainese are xenophobic. Indeed, we young people are no longer like this, but some middle-aged people in their forties and fifties are somewhat xenophobic. But even so, they usually call outsiders "outsiders" and Ningbo and Suzhou "Ningbo people and Suzhou people".

Almost every household in Shanghai has relatives in Ningbo. Several passers-by in Shanghai promise that more than half will tell you: "I am from Ningbo." We have not forgotten our roots, and we are all proud of being Ningbo people. I really don't understand why some friends in Ningbo exclude Shanghainese.

Moreover, in the old Shanghai period, it was definitely Ningbo people who controlled the upper structure of society, and the cultural strength assimilated Jiangbei people, which can be seen from the language.

In addition, there is no question of who climbs who in Ningbo and Shanghai. As the largest ethnic group in Shanghai, the descendants of Ningbo people are originally a family.
