The Life of Characters in Yan Yongjing's Works

Yan Yongjing (1838- 1898 June) was one of the Chinese priests in the early Anglican Church in China, and was also one of the founders of Wenhua College in Wuchang and St. John's College in Shanghai.

Yan Yongjing was born in Shandong, then immigrated to Fujian and then moved to Shanghai. From 65438 to 0848, Yan Yongjing entered the school founded by Bishop William Jones Boone in Heather. 1854, he was sent by the Anglican Church to study in the United States. 186 1 graduated from Kenyon College in Ohio,1returned to China in 862, and worked as an interpreter in the British Consulate in Shanghai and a general affairs officer in the Ministry of Industry in the public concession.

1868, Yan Yongjing was transferred to the church to help missionary Wei preach in Wuchang, Hubei. 1870 as a priest, he was one of the founders of Hubei Anglican Diocese and Wuchang Boone Memorial School (the predecessor of Huazhong Normal University).

1878, Yan Yongjing returned to Shanghai to help Bishop Shi establish St. John's College and served as the president 188 1 year. He arranged for young children who had been taken abroad by Hong Rong to return to China to teach in the school. Later, St. John's University named the boys' dormitory "Siyantang" to commemorate Yan Yongjing's achievements.

From 65438 to 0886, Yan Yongjing was appointed as the pastor of Church of Our Saviour in Hongkou, the Anglican Church. From 65438 to 0894, Yan Yongjing was sent abroad by China Anti-smoking Association for publicity, and died in the United States from 65438 to 0898.

On April 6th 188 1,1October 25th 1885, 165438, Yan Yongjing wrote to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to protest against the ban on China people from visiting the Bund Park.
