Chen Shouchang's Sacrifice
After the Xiao Yuan meeting of the provincial party committee, the enemy stepped up the blockade and encirclement of the provincial party committee and the headquarters of the provincial Soviet government. In order to avoid unnecessary sacrifices and losses, in late June and April of 65438+ year 10, Chen Shouchang led the provincial organs to evacuate from Xiaoyuan to Youzu Village in Tongpeng County, and then moved from Youzu Village to Longmen Mountain, which was on the boundary of repairing copper (drums). In June of the same year, during the transfer, the Sixteenth Red Division was reorganized, and Chen Shouchang was appointed as the political commissar to defeat the enemy 1 battalion in Li Xi, Wuning. Later, when we arrived in Longmenshan area, and were ready to insist on guerrilla warfare to establish a base area, the enemy surrounded the Red Army with four divisions. With the cooperation of planes and artillery, the Red Army's strength, equipment and supplies were even worse. Therefore, the provincial party Committee decided to break through and move to the Jindong Soviet area in Pingjiang County. On the way to the breakthrough, the Red Sixteenth Division suffered heavy losses, leaving only about 1 battalion, and most provincial cadres were separated at the expense. The provincial party Committee called this failure the "June 7th Incident".
In August, Chen Shouchang held an emergency meeting of the provincial party committee in Hejialong, Jindong. On behalf of the provincial party Committee, he made a summary report on the "June 7 incident" and took responsibility for the command mistakes and combat failures of the provincial party Committee and the military region. The meeting summed up the reasons and lessons of failure, seriously criticized and opposed "right opportunism that lost confidence in the whole revolutionary war and the future development of Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi Soviet areas because of the temporary and partial losses of the June and July Incident", and held that "resolutely consolidating the situation of Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi struggle in Jindong basic Soviet areas" and "restoring and strengthening the main force of the Red Army and defending and contacting the Soviet areas" were the most important combat tasks of the Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi party organizations.
After the "June 7th Incident", most of the Soviet areas in Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi were divided and occupied by the enemy, and entered a period of hard guerrilla warfare. After the main force of the Central Red Army went northward for the Long March and the main forces of the Red Army in the neighboring Soviet areas left the base areas one after another, the Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi Soviet areas tended to be isolated and helpless. The enemy often invaded the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Soviet area with forces several times or ten times that of the Red Army, and further took the cruelest measures, such as killing, burning, looting, layer-by-layer blockade, forced immigration, and joint defense of Jiabao, to harm the people in the Soviet area. In addition, the provincial radio station was destroyed by the enemy in the "June 7 incident" and its contact with the CPC Central Committee was interrupted. In this severe and harsh environment, the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee with Chen Shouchang as the core, despite difficulties, closely United and unified its will, led the soldiers and civilians in the Soviet area to stubbornly persist in guerrilla warfare, and the red flag did not fall.
In June+10, 5438, Chen Shouchang presided over the provincial party committee meeting in the rice sieve pot in Jindong. At the meeting, regardless of his poor health, high myopia and the discouragement of his comrades, he insisted on going to the front again, saying: "Now we rely on the Red Army to win the battle, and everything will be easy if we win the battle well. I am not at ease if I don't go up. " So he went to the front with Xu Yangang and presided over the restoration of the Sixteenth Division.
In early June 165438+ 10, Chen Shouchang and Xu Yangang led the 46th Regiment of the Sixteenth Red Division to carry out guerrilla activities in the Chongtong Soviet Area in Xiuwu, and the morale of the troops was high. After arriving at Lengshuiping, Tongshan, Chen Shouchang officially announced the resumption of the Red Sixteenth Division. At this time, Chen Shouchang and Xu Yangang learned from the Kuomintang newspaper that the Central Red Army had moved westward to southern Hunan. In order to contain some enemy troops and cooperate with the Central Red Army, they decided to develop troops to the southwest. 165438+1On October 22nd, when the troops went to Tiger Cave at the junction of Chongyang and Tongcheng, they joined two regiments of the enemy's 33rd Division under the personal command of former enemies Chen Shouchang and Xu Yangang, thus repelling the enemy's repeated attacks. However, Chen Shouchang was unfortunately shot and seriously injured, and died that night in Heping Village, Chongyang County.
