Which region of Xinjiang does Pishan County belong to?

Pishan County belongs to the Hotan Prefecture of Xinjiang.

Pishan County is located at the southernmost tip of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, at the northern foot of the Karakoram Mountains, at the southern edge of the Taklimakan Desert, and on the border with Indian-administered Kashmir. It is a country dominated by Uyghurs, Han and Tajik. It is a border county where 12 ethnic groups, including the Kyrgyz and 12 ethnic groups, live together. The border is 54.5 kilometers long.

The county governs 16 towns (7 plain towns and 9 mountainous towns in the north and south of National Highway 315), a comprehensive agricultural development zone, a fine seed farm, and a state-owned pasture.

Historical evolution

Pishangu was one of the thirty-six countries in the Western Regions. "Book of Han? Biography of the Western Regions" records: "The king of Pishan Kingdom ruled Pishan City and went to Chang'an for ten thousand and fifty miles to connect with Tiandu in the south." During the Three Kingdoms, it was called Pixue Kingdom, and during the Northern Wei Dynasty, it was called Pushan Kingdom.

In the eighth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, that is, 1882 AD, Pishan area belonged to Yecheng County and was under the jurisdiction of Shache Prefecture on the Kashgar Road.

In 1929, Pishan County came under the jurisdiction of Hotan Administrative Region.

Xinjiang was peacefully liberated on September 25, 1949. On December 25 of the same year, the Chinese People's Liberation Army entered Pishan County and took over the old regime militarily.

In March 1950, the People's Government of Pishan County was established.
