The deeds of Hou Haiyan
"I completed junior high school and high school with the support of caring people, and then I stepped into the university gate." Hou Haiyan, who grew up in love, told reporters that she has always been grateful for the love from the society and is determined to do something within her power, hoping to pass on this love baton through her own hands.
"Love Supermarket" is popular among college students.
After entering the university in 2005, Hou Haiyan joined the team of young volunteers in the school and went to the library every week to help the staff sort out books. In the seemingly simple work process, she personally realized the difficulty of library staff.
In a chat, a senior college student said that it is a pity that many clothes and books will be thrown away when they are about to graduate. She thinks it's a great waste. In June 2006, Hou Haiyan found the person in charge of the Youth League Committee and hoped that the school would support her and the volunteers to launch a charity donation activity, leaving behind the useful clothes that the younger brothers and sisters were about to throw away. After her idea is supported, they plan to set up a "love supermarket", and while posting posters and making publicity on campus, they will mobilize students to donate the clothes and books they intend to throw away to the "love supermarket", which will then donate them to poor students and needy people outside the school. This move received a positive response from college students, and more than 100 people joined the ranks of volunteers in the Love Society. In a week's time, more than 6000 clothes were collected, and all the students donated clothes they didn't want to wear. The school also set aside two rooms for the "Love Supermarket". Later, more and more clothes were donated, and the school made an exception and set aside four rooms for the "Love Supermarket".
Hou Haiyan and young volunteers used the class time to sort out these clothes one by one. Zhang Yajuan, a college student, said, "It's difficult to arrange clothes. Some clothes are covered with dust, and some even smell musty, so many people are unwilling to do it. There is not much spare time, and Hou Haiyan just takes time to sort out the clothes piled up into mountains with everyone. " Without bookshelves, Hou Haiyan ran around trying to find a way, and finally applied for seven large bookshelves from the equipment office, making the "love supermarket" prosperous.
Subsequently, the "Love Supermarket" is open to the public all day every Saturday and Sunday, where Hou Haiyan and young volunteers send and receive clothes. In addition to the poor students in the school, there are also citizens outside the school who come to the "Love Supermarket" to receive clothes for free. Now, more than 220 college students have volunteered to join the Love Society, and Hou Haiyan is the president of the Love Society. 1000 pieces of clothes were found and taken away by "Love Supermarket".
"Love Supermarket" has also joined hands with the Student Union Department, the Propaganda Department, the Organization Department and the External Relations Department to carry out various publicity and donation activities, attracting teachers and students from colleges and universities to participate in them and becoming the most popular public welfare activity with the largest number of participants on campus. Hou Haiyan's name and her deeds began to spread all over the campus.
Walk into the "Leprosy Village" and offer love.
In the summer of 2007, Hou Haiyan came to Shaduxi Village, Luxi County, Jishou City, Hunan Province at his own expense with the money earned from tutoring, and participated in the work camp of leprosy rehabilitation village organized by the Guangzhou Committee of Home. Hou Haiyan and more than 20 college student volunteers from all over the world walked into this "leprosy village" to carry out villagers' networking activities and eat and live with the villagers.
Hou Haiyan said that in the 1950s, due to the limitation of medical conditions, all these leprosy patients were treated intensively in the depths of the mountains. Now, they have recovered and are eager to return to their original place of residence, but people are still wary of them and think that they are still infected. Because the disease corrodes people's nerve endings, even after recovery, they are still disabled, resulting in deformed appearance and inconvenient life and movement, so they have to return to remote villages where they were originally treated intensively. Although they have a monthly living allowance, they are more eager for heart-to-heart communication.
Here, Hou Haiyan and volunteers cook and cook soup for the villagers and eat at the same table with them. Hou Haiyan, who grew up in the countryside, used his skill of chopping wood and cooking to cook mung bean soup for the villagers and invited them to drink soup and get together. Many villagers said with tears that they have never been so happy! She also works with volunteers to build roads and bridges for the villagers. After work, she sat beside the old people and chatted with them to eliminate their inner loneliness. Hou Haiyan and volunteers also performed cultural programs for the villagers, emitting youthful songs and dances, which made the old people living in this remote mountain village laugh happily.
In order to make the surrounding villagers have more contact with the "Leprosy Village", college student volunteers also invited villagers from neighboring villages to play basketball and have a basketball match. "However, we lost that time." Hou Haiyan said with a smile, "We hope that through these activities, we can eliminate the long-standing discrimination and prejudice against leprosy patients by villagers in neighboring villages."
After living in this remote mountain village for 10 days, Hou Haiyan was deeply touched. She wrote in her diary: "Maybe our song is out of tune, maybe our dance is not beautiful enough, but it doesn't matter. The happy smiles on the faces of the old people made me feel the power of love. "
A love messenger who is busy every day.
A child who immigrated from Sichuan to Jiangjiawan Village in Yiling District with his parents still haunts Hou Haiyan. The child's name is Xia Yucang, a student who went to visit and coach Hou Haiyan when he was teaching.
In 2006, Hou Haiyan, as the leader of the voluntary teaching group of Jiangjiawan Primary School of the Young Volunteers' Love Society, took his team members to Jiangjiawan Primary School in Yiling District for voluntary teaching on weekends and holidays. In order to help the children in these rural primary schools get real help, they have done teaching work in students' homes. But it's a long way and the traffic is inconvenient, so they take the bus, from school to county, and then from county to village. At least after changing to the second bus, they took the mountain road to the students' home. It often takes two to three hours from school to arrival. In the form of "two gangs and one", according to students' basic learning situation and ideological status, give them classes, talk with them, help them set up lofty ideals and make their parents grateful. In the process of teaching, Hou Haiyan and his classmates found that many children dropped out of school and went out to work to earn money after graduating from junior high school. Therefore, while tutoring their children, they make propaganda to rural parents and mobilize them to try their best to make their children read more books and change their destiny with knowledge. Today, the Love Society has grown to 75 volunteers, and has undertaken teaching work with No.8 Middle School and Aibo Rehabilitation Special School, and the teaching activities have been carried out in a vivid way.
Hou Haiyan is always busy every day. She said, "There are too many things to do besides studying, so I have to write down one thing to do the next day on paper every night and cross one thing off." Yong Fang, a classmate who knows her very well, said that she always has a full schedule.
"Where there is love activity, there is her figure." Yong Fang, a student of the School of Economics and Management of Three Gorges University who often cooperates with Hou Haiyan in caring activities, said: "Hou Haiyan is not only kind and caring, but also thoughtful and responsible. Everyone is willing to participate in the activities initiated by her. " In class, she has always been a life Committee member. At the end of each semester, she will make a detailed list of semester expenses for everyone to see. If in doubt, solve it immediately.
When the school started in September last year, Hou Haiyan took the initiative to apply for a teaching assistant in the freshman class. At the beginning of school, Hou Haiyan, who was already very busy, walked into every freshman dormitory and chatted with the freshmen who had just settled down. Freshmen who are new here and unfamiliar with each other have the help of their senior sisters. Hou Haiyan patiently told them where the classroom is, the problems that should be paid attention to in college life, etc., and accompanied them through the new critical period.
As the vice president of "Green Science and Technology Society", Hou Haiyan and other cadres of the association also organized various lectures, environmental surveys, theme forums and environmental publicity activities on science and technology and environmental protection knowledge, and jointly carried out social practice activities with other brother organizations in the school, such as the Environmental Protection Association and the Four-dimensional Marketing Planning Association. Thanks to her efforts, the association has successively won the titles of "Excellent Association of Schools", "Best Innovation Award" and "Second Prize of Excellent Association". Hou Haiyan was successively rated as an outstanding young volunteer, outstanding cadre, outstanding student and outstanding organizer of large-scale fund-raising activities for graduates by the school, and won a university scholarship with excellent results.
Hou Haiyan said that participating in public welfare activities did not affect her study. On the contrary, she found a more efficient learning method in the intense study, and she will try to pass on this love baton.
