Can Canadian students work while applying for immigration?

Yes, if you meet the requirements.

From June 1 2004, international students no longer need to apply for work permits outside the school. They can go to Service Canada with valid study permit, passport and proof of study, and apply for social insurance number (SIN for short) to work.

What conditions do you need to meet to work outside the school?

1) requires a valid student visa.

2) Full-time students

3) Attend DLI# schools recognized by the government.

4) Attend professional courses for at least 8 months.

Note: ESL students and high school students are not allowed to work outside the school.

Not every study permit allows you to work outside the school legally. There should also be a clear indication on the big sign that you can work outside the school.

See the notes in the red box below. You must have this word on the big sign before you can apply for a work card directly with this big sign and your passport.
