The history and culture of Zhanjiang.

The origin of city names

Today, Zhanjiang city was originally a French concession in Guangzhou Bay. In the thirty-fourth year of the Republic of China (1945) in September, it was taken back by China, and a municipal level was established, named Zhanjiang City. Because it once belonged to Shenchuan County in history, there was Shenchuan Inspection Department in the territory, hence the name. The ancient "god ship" was also called "warship". It is also said that because Zhanjiang originally belonged to Suixi and Wuchuan, it was named after "Shenchuan" and "Jianjiang". [6]

Architectural evolution

According to the textual research of unearthed cultural relics, the jurisdiction of Zhanjiang today was inhabited by humans as far back as the late Neolithic period (between Xia and Shang Dynasties) 4,000 years ago.

During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the local area was Baiyue territory. [ 19]

After Qin Shihuang unified China, Zhanjiang became a part of China territory and belonged to Xiang Jun.

In the sixth year of Ding Yuan in the Han Dynasty (before11), Xuwen, Leizhou and Suixi in the south belonged to xuwen county in the toe-to-toe area; Wuchuan and Lianjiang in the north belong to Gaoliang County and Hepu County. Later, the three southern counties successively belonged to Jiaozhou, Yuezhou, Hezhou, South Hezhou and East Hezhou.

In the eighth year of Zhenguan in Tang Dynasty (634), Donghe County was changed to Leizhou, which was in charge of the three counties of Leizhou Peninsula until the Qing Dynasty. The two northern counties belonged to Guangzhou, Luozhou, Huazhou and Gaozhou in Ming and Qing Dynasties.

In October of the 25th year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (1899 1 1), France coerced the Qing government into signing the Guangzhou Bay Concession Treaty, which included part of the land and islands of Suixi and Wuchuan counties and Maxie Bay (now Zhanjiang Port) between them into the French concession, collectively known as "Guangzhou Bay", and incorporated them into France. The total land and sea area is about 2 130 square kilometers, of which the land area is 5 18 square kilometers. The capital is located in Maxie; In the first year of the Republic of China (19 1 1), Maxie City was abandoned and its administrative capital was Qianxiying City (now Xiashan).

After the founding of the Republic of China, the five counties successively belonged to Gao Lei Road, Lu Nan Administrative Region, Southern District Recovery Committee Office and Southern District Appeasement Office.
