Why is the official language of Suriname Chinese?

The official language of Suriname is not Chinese. Suriname has only one official language, Dutch.

However, there are only 42,000 Chinese, and the first generation of immigrants in the early days used Hakka dialect. The second and third generations of immigrants have been unable to speak Hakka fluently and turned to Dutch as their mother tongue. Another widely used language is Surinamese Creole, or Surinamese. Creole is based on Dutch and is a mixture of Hindi, Javanese and African dialects.

Chinese in Suriname

In addition to the descendants of early Chinese workers, Suriname also has new immigrants who joined after World War II. The Chinese population in Suriname has increased from 1950 to 1 37 1 to 6400, and the gender ratio of Chinese tends to be balanced. China people who arrived early took over their families, and the Chinese community became increasingly prosperous.

In order to protect themselves and develop their education, China people have successively established three groups: the General Charity Association, the Kuomintang and the Chinese Guild Hall. Chinese in Suriname also have Chinese newspapers, Chinese radio stations and Chinese schools.
