The origin of Gansu province
The name of Gansu province is taken from the initials of Ganzhou and Suzhou. Ci Hai said: "It was named after the initials of Ganzhou and Suzhou." Ganzhou is today's Zhangye City, and Suzhou is today's Jiuquan City, both of which are important towns in the ancient Hexi Corridor. According to historical records, in the Western Wei Dynasty, Xiliangzhou was changed to Ganzhou. Either in the name of Ganjun Mountain or in the name of Ganquan. In other words, the name "Ganzhou" began in the Southern and Northern Dynasties and lasted for 554 years. The name Ganzhou is named after this land.
Archaeological remains show that Zhangye had human activities as early as 5000 years ago. According to Records of Historical Records and Hanshu, a title of generals in ancient times Huo Qubing was sent to the western regions to conquer Xiongnu in BC 12 1 year, the second year of Emperor founding ceremony. Therefore, the Han Dynasty set up four counties and two passes in Hexi Corridor, built the Great Wall, opened traffic, built water conservancy projects and resettled people, and began the grand cause of developing and governing Hexi.
