Why is there a sandstorm in Gansu?

1. Natural factors mainly include dry climate, less precipitation, high surface exposure and easy soil erosion. Gansu is located at the junction of Loess Plateau, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and Inner Mongolia Plateau, with complex terrain and diverse climate, and unstable air is also a favorable condition for the development of sandstorms.

2. Human factors are mainly the blind reclamation of wasteland between sand dunes by immigrants and the destruction of desert ecosystem. The amount of dust in the new reclamation area is ten times that in the desert. The decline of groundwater level turns the original beaches, swamps, lake basins and fixed sand dunes into quicksand, and these new sands become the material basis of sandstorms.
