Where is the Great Wall of Ningxia?
The Great Wall of Ningxia is a famous scenic spot in Yinchuan’s cultural landscape.
The Great Wall of China from the Qin Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty has its ruins in Ningxia, so Ningxia is known as the Great Wall Museum of China. In the Ming Dynasty, the Great Wall was called the Border Wall. The main ones in Ningxia include the West Great Wall, the North Great Wall, the East Great Wall and the Guyuan Inner Border Wall, with a total length of more than 400 kilometers. Among them, the remains of the Qin Great Wall in the north of Guyuan County are very clear.
In the Ming Dynasty, the Mongolian Tatar and Oara tribes often entered Chimukou (today's Sanguankou) in the Helan Mountains from the Alxa Platform in Inner Mongolia and drove directly to various parts of the plains. For the sake of border security, the rulers of the Ming Dynasty specially built the Great Wall (called the border wall in the Ming Dynasty) and set up passes at the three passes, making it one of the four dangers of ancient Yinchuan city defense.
Sanguankou Ming Great Wall is located in the southern part of Helan Mountain, more than 40 kilometers west of Yinchuan City. This pass is the junction between Ningxia and Alxa Left Banner of Inner Mongolia. The Yinchuan-Bayanhot highway passes through the pass. You can see the ruins of the broken Great Wall at the pass. The three passes are from east to west, with the first pass, the second pass and the third pass. Later generations called it the three passes. The mountains here are winding and the terrain is majestic and steep. A pass was built in the depression between the two mountains.
According to historical records, in the 10th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1531), Ningxia Qian Shiqi spent tens of thousands of dollars to build the 80-kilometer-long Great Wall starting from Damabao in the south and connecting to Sanguan in the north. Filled with wind and sand. In the 19th year of Jiajing (1540), Yang Shouli, governor of Ningxia, rebuilt and repaired the old border wall and added the Great Wall to the north of Sanguankou. The Toudaoguan Pass wall connects with the Great Wall from the north to the south. The mountains here are wide and it is a place where a hundred horses can be accommodated in a gentle pass. The city wall on the north side extends northward along the ridge. The wall is built with stones. At each corner of the city wall, there is a pier. The walls and piers have been damaged, and only part of the foundation remains. The Great Wall extending to the southeast from Toudaoguan is relatively well preserved to this day. The wall is about 7 meters high, 6.5 meters wide at the base, and 3.5 meters wide at the top. There are parapets on both sides of the top of the wall.
When the Great Wall was built, there was a lot of gravel and little soil here, so the sergeants cut through the cliffs and valleys and got loam in several places. Since there was no water, hundreds of water trucks were built to reach Pingji, which is more than 20 kilometers away from the pass. The fort takes water, mixes it with loam and gravel, and rams it to make it extremely strong. Six kilometers west of Toudaoguan is Erdaoguan. There is a hilltop more than 20 meters high on the south side of the pass. There is a pier on the hilltop, which is 11 meters square and about 8 meters high. The east of Sandaoguan is 4 kilometers away from Erdaoguan. This pass is sandwiched by two mountains. The valley is narrow and divided by water. The mountains are steep and steep. Looking up at the towering peaks, looking down at the valley bottom is steep. The terrain is very dangerous. It is quite difficult for one man to guard the pass. Open momentum. When the pass was built, a stone Great Wall and a deep ditch were built along the mountain.
In the past, the Sanguankou area stretched vertically and horizontally, with piers, towers, and beacon towers connected to the left and right. It was really a dangerous chokepoint for the western control of the desert. There is a poem that says:
Hundreds of obstacles are worth thousands of dangers,
One effort will bring peace to the country for thousands of years.
Knowing that the war will cease from now on,
*** said that the gallbladder of felt fur has become cold.
