The State Administration of Immigration (People's Republic of China (PRC) Exit-Entry Administration) was established on April 2, 2008. It is the national bureau under the management of the Ministry of Public Security. The main responsibilities are: responsible for the national immigration management; Responsible for coordinating the formulation and implementation of exit-entry management policies and plans, and drafting relevant laws and regulations; Responsible for establishing and improving the coordination mechanism of visa management, organizing and implementing the issuance and management of visas and entry permits for foreigners in China and the extension and renewal of visas; Responsible for the management of foreigners studying in China, work-related management, stay and permanent residence management, nationality management and refugee management; Responsible for entry-exit frontier inspection, management of border people's exchanges, and frontier management in border areas; Responsible for the entry and exit management of China citizens for personal reasons and the approval of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents returning to the mainland (mainland); Take the lead in coordinating the illegal entry, illegal residence, illegal employment and illegal immigration repatriation of foreigners, and investigate and deal with illegal and criminal acts that hinder the management of the country (border); International cooperation in the field of immigration. The State Administration of Immigration leads and manages the work of the national entry-exit frontier inspection agencies and border management agencies, and guides and manages the business of the entry-exit management agencies of public security organs in all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government.

The difference between immigration police and ordinary police

The police of the Immigration Bureau are responsible for managing foreigners' stay and permanent residence, refugee management and nationality management. Ordinary police are responsible for preventing, stopping and detecting illegal and criminal activities; Maintain public order and stop acts that endanger public order.

People's Police Law of the People's Republic of China Article 2 The tasks of the people's police are to safeguard national security, maintain social order, protect citizens' personal safety, personal freedom and legitimate property, protect public property, and prevent, stop and punish illegal and criminal activities. The people's police include the people's police of public security organs, state security organs, prisons and reeducation-through-labor administrative organs, and the judicial police of people's courts and people's procuratorates.
