When applying for a residence permit, do I need to use a demographic book or an ID card?

The residence permit is not the household registration book. The residence permit is a document that you need to apply for when you live in a place that is not on your household registration book.

Residence permit is an attempt by some developed cities in China to learn from the "green card" system of developed countries, to formulate skilled immigration methods for China, and ultimately to accumulate experience in forming China's national "green card" system. Those holding a residence permit can enjoy the treatment of local residents.

In January 2014, Beijing issued regulations that the residence permit system will replace the current temporary residence permit. On December 4 of the same year, the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council solicited opinions from the public on the "Residence Permit Management Measures (Draft for Comments)". The draft for comments stipulates that citizens who leave their permanent place of residence and live in other cities with districts or above for more than half a year, and meet one of the conditions of stable employment, stable residence, and continuous education, can apply for a residence permit.

The residence permit uses a CPU chip IC card, and various localities can expand the following social service functions of the residence permit:

Financial services. You can bind a bank account, use your residence permit to check account balances, and conduct inter-bank remittance and payment services within and outside the province. Bus services. You can "swipe your pass" to take public transportation vehicles with the residence permit service logo.

E-government. Through the self-service declaration platform, functions such as applying for a residence permit and applying for changes and renewals of residence permit items are self-realized.

Small consumption. By loading the e-wallet function, the residence permit can be used for small purchases at merchant POS terminals.

Telecom recharge service. You can bind a mobile, China Netcom, and Telecom number, and recharge the number at any time to automatically receive consumption points.

Public *** service. Holders can book subway, train and flight tickets.

Access control application. By loading the access control function, the residential population can be effectively identified. Upon expiration of the residence period, the holder's access to the community will be automatically blocked.

One pass for enterprises. Enterprises or units can use residence permits to register employees' attendance, access identification, and internal consumption based on actual conditions.
