What is the relationship between Byzantine Empire and Rome?

In 330, the Roman emperor Constantine I established the capital in the former site of the ancient Greek immigrant city of Byzantium and renamed it Constantinople. In 395, the Roman Empire was divided into two parts: East and West. Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, is also called the Byzantine Empire.

In September, 476, Odyak, a German mercenary officer, deposed romulus Augustus Luce, the last emperor of the Western Roman Empire, and the Western Roman Empire perished. The Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire was destroyed by the Ottoman Empire in 1453.
