Historical evolution of Qingyundian Town

Daxing Qingyundian is a large town in southern Beijing, an ancient but young market town. According to word-of-mouth information and historical records, this town was formed and developed in the Qing Dynasty. Before the Liao, Jin and Yuan Dynasties, this place was an ancient battlefield and sparsely populated. The land is barren. In the early Ming Dynasty, King Yan Zhu Di defeated his nephew Zhu Yunwen, Emperor Jianwen, and became emperor in June of the fourth year of Jianwen (1402). After dealing with the military and state affairs, at the end of September, "the landless people of Shanxi were sent to Peking, and the money was given to them for another five years." (History of the Ming Dynasty - Volume 1, page 75). Most people in the Qingyundian area immigrated from Shanxi at that time, including the so-called 72nd Company Camp.

Beitou of Qingyundian Town and villages east of Laoguanli originally had two and a half rooms in their old bases, which is a trace of the even distribution of residential bases during immigration at that time. The history of Qingyundian Town is not as early as that of Dongdian Village, where Qingyundian is located. The original market was not in Qingyundian Town but in the village of Dongdian. In the third year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1877), the market moved from Dongdian Village to the market town of Qingyundian. After many years of vicissitudes in Yihai, Qingyundian, a geomantic treasure land, has become more and more populated. By the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, it had reached a certain scale. At the north end of Qingyundian Town, the inscription on the Zhenwu Temple rebuilt in Gengchen of the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty (1820) says: "Qingrundian, south of You'anmen Garden, Kyoto, is also a giant town in the south of Beijing, -----". It can be seen that by the middle and late Qing Dynasty, Qingyundian had become a large town.

According to word-of-mouth information, Qingyun store was first called Xidian and Qingrun store, and later changed its name to Qingyun store. At first, Qingyundian only had 20 or 30 households in one area in the center of the town. The four surnames are Si, Yang, Hou and Dou. There are several small natural villages around, such as Nanzhang Village (some say Malindian Village), Beimadian, Dongfenshang, Xifengshang, etc. Year by year, foreign people move to settle here, such as the large Wu family in Qingyundian, whose genealogy records are in the Ming Dynasty. They moved from Jiangsu during the Wanli period. The Wen family moved from Leling, Shandong in the late Qing Dynasty and so on. After many years of gathering together, it became a big town. In which year and month did Xidian and Qingrun stores change to Qingyun store? There is a word-of-mouth legend: It turns out that there was a famous inn called "Malin Inn" in the Nantou of Qingrundian Town. Every year when the imperial court graduates, there are students from the south who come to Beijing to take the exam and stay here. One year, several of my sons lived in this hotel, and the owner warmly entertained them. In the evening, all the children gathered together to talk about the scientific examination. A young scholar asked: "Brothers, what is the basis for doing things?" Everyone answered: "Serve the imperial court and put the people first." They talked as much as they could, and everyone went back to their rooms to rest. That night the young man had a dream. I dreamed that he was admitted to the top of the imperial examination, his official career was so prosperous, and he was appointed as the Imperial Envoy of the Eight Prefectures by the emperor. He eliminated corrupt officials, killed bullies, and prayed for the people along the way. It was really exciting. Early the next morning, he called the shopkeeper and his disciples together and recounted his dream. Someone ridiculed him and said: "This is really a good dream." When he returned, he seriously said to the shop owner: "Why don't you change the name of your shop to Qingyun shop?" The shop owner asked in confusion: "Why did you change the name?" Said: "This store is one station away from the capital. All the children who went to Beijing to take the exam stayed here. From then on, they went straight to the top. Isn't it beautiful to be successful every step of the way? Good luck is the basis of attracting business." The shop owner thinks that this is reasonable. , changed "Malin Store" to "Qingyun Store". When he was in high spirits, he wrote the three characters "Qingyun Store". Later, he really won the first prize in this exam, and then he visited this store again.

As time went by, the Qingrun store was also renamed Qingyun store. It is ominous when it was changed. However, in March of the 13th year of Guangxu (1887), the inscription on the Zhenwu Temple was rebuilt and there is such a record: "Fifty miles south of Beijing." There is a huge town called Qingyun Store."
