Five ways for international students to develop in the United States

After studying abroad, the most striking thing is the way out in the future. Perhaps some students are already preparing for future employment during the process of studying abroad. Nowadays, the wave of financial crisis has also spawned a large number of returnees. After graduating from the United States, international students in China have roughly five ways out. International students can choose their own way out according to their own actual situation.

1, the preferred institution.

According to Toronto Information Port, generally speaking, the way out for doctoral degree winners is teaching and scientific research. Therefore, for a long time, working in colleges and universities has been the first choice for international students in China. Working in a university has several advantages. First, identity is easy to solve. Among all kinds of immigrants, one is called "excellent talents". Anyone who teaches in a university can fall into this category. When you apply for a teaching position in the United States for the first time, you are usually an assistant professor. After six years, if you meet the requirements in teaching, scientific research and community contribution, you can get tenure. However, compared with industry and commerce, education's extra-wage income is low, which has a lot to do with majors, geographical location and local living standards. Generally speaking, the income of law schools, business schools, electrical appliances and computer majors is higher than that of liberal arts. The recruitment of American university teachers is generally national or even global, and the competition is often fierce. About 10% of international students in China teach in universities.

2. Working in the government or academic research department.

There are many large research departments in the US government, such as NASA and NIH. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is divided into 27 institutes and research centers, including National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Ophthalmology (NEI), National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and National Human Genome Institute (NHGR). Many other universities are also entrusted by the federal government to manage large laboratories in some countries. These research institutes and research centers need a large number of highly educated researchers every year to provide employment opportunities for China students who have completed their studies. The advantage of working in these scientific research units is that you can directly contact the latest scientific and technological achievements. But the disadvantage is that many projects in these institutes and research centers are closely related to the national science budget and specific funds of that year, so many times the work here is temporary. About 20% of China students work in such research departments.

3. People who go to the company to do technology, scientific research and management.

There are many mainland scholars who study engineering, business and accounting. The advantage of working in major companies is that the extra-salary income and various welfare benefits are relatively generous. In recent years, as major companies want to occupy a place in China's domestic economic development, they have set up offices in China. Therefore, many China students are employed as representatives because of their unique conditions. About 40% of China students go to work in big companies.

4. About 10% will start their own company.

In the mid-1990s, driven by the electronic network industry, a group of international students from China raised funds and started their own companies. The advantage of running a company is being your own boss. However, it is inconvenient to work hard in a foreign country, especially in raising funds and financing. With the bursting of the internet economy bubble, these companies are struggling and most of them have to close down. The few who survived, after making major adjustments, waited and waited for the opportunity to move again. At present, about 10% of China students are running their own companies.

5, 20% stranded.

Some people who can't find a job for a while have graduated, some have not finished their studies for various reasons, some have not achieved their identity, and so on. Because I couldn't find a suitable place at the moment, and I couldn't make up my mind to return to China for various reasons, I chose "moving but not static" and stayed. These people, except a few with permanent residence status, will soon be "black" if they stay like this regardless. In this way, going back to school or looking for a job, the identity problem has become an insurmountable obstacle.

Whether you can find a job immediately after graduation is directly related to the economic situation in the United States. International students who came to the United States in the middle and late 1980s met with the Great Depression in the early 1990s when they graduated, and many of them could not find suitable jobs at the moment. By the mid-1990s, the situation had improved, and many graduates had many job opportunities before graduation. Now the American economy is in recession, and it is difficult for international students who graduated in 2008 to find jobs.
