Chad was originally a province of French equatorial Africa. 1958 was declared as an autonomous Republic within the "French body". /kloc-gained independence in 0/960 and established the Republic of Chad. 1962 Ngarta tonBalbaie, leader of the Chadian progressive party, was elected as the first president, and the civil war began in 1963.
