The reasons for the relocation of the Brazilian capital.

Brazil used to have its capitals in Salvador and Rio de Janeiro, both of which are seaside cities. After independence in 1822, the Brazilian government decided to create a new capital in the mainland out of political, economic and strategic security considerations. 134 years later, in 1956, President Kubitschek confirmed Brasilia as the center and capital of the country. He made the decision to move the capital to Brasilia to speed up the development of the interior. Lucio Cos was selected from 26 design plans. Professor Ta's plane layout was used as a blueprint. Construction started in November 1956 and was designed and built by architect Oscar Nimier. Finally, a brand new capital was built in just three and a half years.

Brazil officially moved its capital to Brasilia on April 21, 1960. At first, the population was less than 200,000. Later, a large number of immigrants from other states poured in, and the population increased dramatically, becoming one of the largest cities in the country
