1. Application tax number

Australian workers need to pay income tax to the government. In Australia, if you have income, you need a tax number (TFN).

The tax number is a unique number issued to individuals and enterprises to help the government manage taxes and other government plans. Taxes are used to fund government projects and services such as roads, schools and hospitals.

If you immigrate to Australia or hold a temporary resident visa that allows you to work in Australia, you can apply for the tax number in the following ways: apply on the website of the Australian Inland Revenue Department (ATO) (please select' individual'), and get the tax number application form from the Inland Revenue Department or the Centrelink office.

2. Register for national medical insurance

The Australian government provides assistance in medical expenses through medical insurance. The government also subsidizes the cost of some drugs through the drug subsidy scheme. The Medical Insurance and Drug Subsidy Scheme (PBS) is managed by Australian Medical Insurance.

If you are eligible for medical insurance, you can use various medical services and plans immediately. This includes free care in public hospitals, help with post-discharge care costs, and subsidized drugs.

To register for medical insurance, please bring your passport and other travel documents to the medical insurance office. If you meet all the registration requirements, you will get a temporary national health card number for your use. The national health care card will be sent to you in about three weeks. Note: during the temporary visa period, you can't enjoy free medical care. Need to buy commercial insurance, each family is about three thousand Australian dollars a year. The Australian government supports people to buy commercial insurance, so many people who obtain permanent residence status will also buy commercial insurance every year.

3. Open a bank account

In Australia, people usually deposit money in banks, building societies or credit cooperatives. Most of the income, including wages, salaries and government allowances, is directly credited to your account. Australians use debit cards to withdraw money from bank accounts and often pay for things with debit cards.

If you open an account in a bank, building society or credit union within six weeks after your arrival, you usually only need to provide your passport as proof of identity. After six weeks, you need additional identification to open an account. If you don't have enough documents to prove your identity, you may have difficulty. Tell the bank your tax number (TFN) to avoid higher interest tax rate.

Note: Bank accounts can be opened in China and activated after login.

4. register with Centrelink

A government agency called Centrelink provides a wide range of social security payments and services. New residents of Australia can register at Centrelink to get help in job hunting, overseas technical certification and attending related courses.

Note: Temporary visa holders are not eligible to register for Centrelink until they obtain permanent status.

5. Contact Health Commitment Service

If you signed the Health Assurance Form (Form 8 15) at the request of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), you must call the Health Assurance Service Department upon your arrival in Australia.

After you contact the Health Commitment Service, they will tell the nearest officially recognized clinic to facilitate the follow-up physical examination.

6. Sign up for English courses

The Adult Immigrant English Program (AMEP) provides English courses for new immigrants. New residents may be entitled to take up to 5 10 hours of free English courses.

You must register for AMEP courses in local AMEP service institutions within three months of your arrival in Australia or obtaining permanent residence status. You must start classes within one year, otherwise you may not be able to take part in AMEP to learn English. Once you enter school, if family, work or other responsibilities make it difficult for you to come to class, you can postpone the start of English class.

AMEP provides many different learning methods. Day, evening or weekend courses can be full-time or part-time. Courses are held in urban and rural areas. You can learn English at home through distance learning or with the help of a tutor. If the child is a preschool child, your service organization can arrange free childcare for you during class.

In addition to teaching you English, AMEP will also help you understand the Australian lifestyle and some daily activities, such as banking, shopping, job hunting and participating in community activities. 7. Sign your child up for school

Children should go to school as soon as possible.

In Australia, children must start school at the age of five and complete grade 10. Teenagers who have finished 10 grade must participate in full-time education, training or employment (at least 25 hours per week) or participate in these comprehensive activities before reaching 17 age.

8. Apply for a driver's license

In Australia, you must have a driver's license to drive, and the vehicle must be registered with the government. Driving without a license and driving unregistered vehicles are illegal. Driver's license and license plate are issued by state and regional governments.

If you are a permanent resident and hold a valid driver's license from other countries (whether English driver's license or official translation), most States and regions allow you to drive within the first three months after entering the country.

After these three months, if you want to drive, you need to get a proper Australian driver's license. This usually requires passing knowledge tests, road tests and eyesight tests.

If you don't have a driver's license from other countries, you need to pass the driving knowledge test to get a primary driver's license. A beginner's license allows you to learn to drive. Once you have mastered the corresponding skills, you can apply for a driver's license.
