Tangxi has always existed in this place, but the place name does not have a long history. Before the Ming Dynasty, it had always been under the jurisdiction of Wuzhou and Jinhua Prefecture. During the Chenghua period, due to mining bandits, the Ming government allocated the border areas of Jinhua, Lanxi, Longyou and Suichang counties to establish "Tangxi County".
