The Origin of the Liu Family in Hainan

The surname Liu in Hainan mainly comes from Guangdong Province, followed by Fujian Province, followed by Hunan and Jiangxi provinces, and finally spread all over the mainland.

Among the Liu families, most of the Hainan Liu families belong to Hakka Liu families, that is, families that originated from Zhongshan Wang, Shubeigong, Xianggong and Kaigong. In addition, there are other branches, such as Liu in Wuzhong, Fujian, Liu in Shatuo, Northern Han and so on.

According to the records of Liu's genealogy in Hainan, Liu crossed the sea and entered Qiong in the Yuan Dynasty. Today's Hainan Liu surname, most of them moved in during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
