TED, what should we do after Brexit? ——Alexander Betts

Address

It's this guy again. Last time he talked about the refugee problem in Europe. This is a tragedy. As an Englishman, he talked about his country's views on Brexit.

1. What does Brexit mean? What does it mean for the British and the world?

2. How to deal with the consequences of Brexit and how to reflect on it?

First of all, the speaker thinks that this incident reflects the serious social division in the seemingly United and civilized British society, and people have completely different views on this matter because of their different ages, education, class and geographical location. According to statistics, among the people who participated in the referendum on Brexit, young people accounted for a small proportion, but most of them supported staying in the EU, while the elderly accounted for a large proportion. They supported opening the EU in China. Geographically, London and Scotland have the highest proportion of support for staying in the EU.

The speaker thinks that two reasons led to the result of this referendum:

(1) Many people who think they are tolerant and patriotic actually don't know the whole and actual situation of the country where they live.

(2) Populism and nationalism have been on the rise in western countries in recent years. Many people feel that they are vulnerable groups and have no right to speak, so they go against the trend, vote against it and vote "rebel".

Then, the speaker elaborated four points that he thought needed to be strengthened to avoid the same situation from happening again.

(1) civic education: publicity lets people know the real truth and facts.

(2) Opportunities: create opportunities for local people and immigrants and other diverse communities to communicate with each other and get to know each other.

(3)*** Enjoy the fruits of globalization. Many people only see the shortcomings of globalization, but they don't know what they are blessed with, ignoring the benefits brought by globalization.

(4) More responsible politicians: politicians' short-sightedness will lead to the reversal of black and white and lead people to make wrong decisions.
