According to legend, in the Tang Dynasty, yangko was popular in the south of China, and it was a folk song that the working people hummed when they worked. In the early Ming Dynasty, Zhang Xin, an immigrant from the south to Fan Shi, brought this southern folk song to Fan Shi and Yingxian. Whenever there is a temple fair in the village, this kind of seedling song is performed in the street, and over time, it has become a custom. In the Qing Dynasty, there was a folk artist named Zhang Dai in Baipisong, Yingxian County, who began to put Yangko on the stage and sing for the masses. By Daoguang period of Qing Dynasty, yangko had been popularized in fan shi. In rural areas, many villages and towns have set up class clubs and performed numerous yangko. By 1956, Fan Shi formally established the Yangko Team and absorbed the first batch of actors, thus fostering, protecting and developing this folk drama.
