The name "Chaoshan" originated in modern China, and appeared in Chaoshan customs archives in the 9th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1883). It was used in Chinese and foreign politics, diplomacy and trade.

The name of "Shantou" evolved from the abbreviation of "Shashantou", and the administrative names used in Chaoshan range from 1956 to 199 1 year to 65438+February. Now refers to Shantou city.
