Social structure of Rakhine State

Rakhine State has few plains, many mountains and low population density. According to 1996, there are more than 2.5 million people in Rakhine State.

The ethnic groups living in Rakhine State are mainly Rakhine and Burmese. They mainly live in the river basin, alluvial soil Island in the river delta and other big islands such as Yangbie and Ma Nang. The northern mountainous areas and Rakhine mountainous areas are still inhabited by the Qin nationality, and the western and northern mountainous areas of Sittwe Plain are also inhabited by Miao, German, Kemi and Dai nationalities.

1. Sittwe: Located on the west bank of the mouth of the Geledan River, it is the seat of the government of Rakhine State with a population of more than 200,000 1994. This is a port city with an airport. Rice milling, textile and marine fishing are all well developed.

2. Wu Miao: Located between the Geledan River and the Mueller River, it was once the imperial city of the king of ancient Rakhine State.

3. Kyaukphyu: It is a port town in the northernmost part of Yangbie Island.

4. Santowei: Located on the Santowei River. Ocean-going ships can contact Sanduwei through the expressway after landing at the former port of Debiao. Ebri Beach in the south of Santowei Town is a very beautiful resort in Myanmar.

Other towns in the north include Jiaodu, Mengdu, Budidong, Benana Island, Yade Island, Baodu and Minbi Town. There are Ma Nang, An, Yangbie, Dongkou and Guazhen in the south.
