Where did the story of Shen Congwen's Border Town take place?

Chadong Town, Huayuan County, Hunan Province, but now (2008) this town has been renamed as "Border Town".

Because Shen Congwen is a phoenix, many people think that Border Town is a phoenix in Hunan, but it is not. Look at the first sentence of Border Town: "From Sichuan to Hunan, there is an official road going east, near the border of Xiangxi. In a small mountain town called Tea Cave, there is a stream. " Obviously, the Border Town written by Shen Congwen is called Tea Cave. Look at the map of western Hunan (or China), and you will find that there are no "tea caves" in Fenghuang County. When you look to the northern part of Fenghuang County, Huayuan County at the junction of Hunan, Sichuan (now Chongqing) and Guizhou, you will find the "border town" here. In other words, the prototype of "Border Town" is Chadong Town, Huayuan County, Hunan Province, but now (in 2008) this town has been renamed as "Border Town" and is still marked as "Tea City" on the previously published map.

"Border Town" is an independent original documentary filmed and produced by undergraduates from the Department of Drama, Film and Television Literature, School of Literature, Southwest University, and directed by Chen Yixian (Chen Yuzhou), a junior at that time.

The film was shot during the Spring Festival of 20 13. After living with the vagrants for one month, the creative staff understood the real living conditions of the vagrants, restored their existence as "people" and dialectically reflected on the reasons for the formation of the "vagrants" group with the lens. Director Chen Yixian hopes that through this film, more people can understand the real life of vagrants living at the bottom of society.

This documentary full of humanistic care finally stood out from more than 2,000 entries. "The film makes the viewer dialectically think about the good and evil of human nature, life demands, social welfare system and other issues while feeling helpless." At the award ceremony, the organizing Committee of the competition gave such an evaluation.

The film was shortlisted for the Best Documentary Feature Film in the 20th Beijing University Student Film Festival Original Film Competition, the Best Photography Award in Documentary Unit, the Special Jury Award in the 11th Beijing International University Student Film and Television Exhibition, and the Best University Student Work Award in the 3rd China Documentary Academy.
