What happened to Shuangshiqiao Reservoir in Wuzhuang Town?

On May 6, Shuangshiqiao Reservoir in Wuchuang Town, Yanjiang District, Ziyang, Sichuan, was rippling with clear water and sparkling. Excavators were widening the road not far from the shore.

Shuangshiqiao Reservoir was built in 1970s. From irrigation to flood control to centralized drinking water sources in nearby towns, this reservoir has benefited many people. However, because the reservoir has been "nearly 50 years old", there are different degrees of security risks. Although it has been rectified many times, it has not been fully maintained and repaired due to the shortage of funds.

In April this year, the reinforcement project of Shuangshiqiao Reservoir with a total investment of1.1.70 billion yuan was officially launched. The main construction contents include dam reconstruction, spillway reinforcement, management facilities improvement and automation information construction. It is worth mentioning that this project is also the first pilot project for the construction of intelligent medium-sized reservoirs in Sichuan, and the main project is expected to be completed in July 2023.
