Reading experience of Yilin magazine
Yilin, which has been subscribed for several years, is one of my favorite publications, with six issues every year. Sometimes I feel good, sometimes I don't like it, but the translation level is really remarkable. I happened to see a record a few years ago, so I might as well stay and watch it at any time.
After coming back from Beijing for several years, I immediately went to the newsstand in front to buy my favorite translated forests, readers, life weekly, writers' abstracts and so on. , and then rolled up and ran home. Lying in bed (euphemistically called jet lag), reading page by page, watching China scholars' concerns, learning about major events in China and enjoying newly translated foreign novels, one's inner enrichment and satisfaction with China culture are as sweet as bathing in nectar. I have read two novels, Murder at Midnight (USA) by Beverly Barton, Going Home Before Dark (UK) and several short stories from Japan, Russia, India, Pakistan and South Korea.
One issue of Yilin introduced several novels by a China woman writer, which caught my attention. She, Lisa See, a blonde of one-eighth China descent, lives in LA, 1955 was born in Paris, and her parents divorced when she was very young. Since childhood, Lisa See likes to play with her grandparents in antique shops in Chinatown. In her impression, her mother's house was messy, but her grandparents' home in Chinatown helped her find the center of her life and made her like her China "because it was interesting, romantic and real". Inspired by her great-grandfather's life in the United States, she wrote seven novels in succession, such as On the Golden Mountain, The Flower Net, The Dragon Bone and so on.
What makes people feel is that Lisa See, who is only one-eighth of China descent, always insists on his China identity, is obsessed with China culture, studies the immigration history of China people in the United States, and is willing to be the messenger of two cultural exchanges. She said, "My American side has opened a window for Chinese speakers to learn about the culture of China and China. And my side in China taught me that I can write the real China culture without making it look strange and unfamiliar. "
I have had contact and interaction with several overseas Chinese. Living in a foreign country, almost everyone can write rich biographies, and many outstanding talents are slowly submerged in the vast sea of people. Some of their descendants (ABC) have been completely westernized, and some are half-western and half-Chinese. Although they can speak Chinese, most people can't read and write. After all, people's energy is limited, especially when parents are busy supporting their families. When they realized the necessity of Chinese, their children had grown up. Who would have thought that today's China has become a country with rapid development? ! The influence of China and the acceptance of China culture outside the region were almost unimaginable ten years ago.
I met a lovely and beautiful ABC girl recently. Although she is only 16 years old, her Chinese is quite standard. She said to me very seriously: "My husband must be from China in the future!" I smiled and asked, "Why? Can't a white husband? " She said firmly, "Well, no ... I want to make my blood very pure and be a real China person." After listening to her words, I couldn't help laughing happily. She traveled to many places in Europe and North China in her early years, but she was right. Her thoughts represent her recognition and love for American culture.
For overseas Chinese living all over the world, bloodline is not the most important thing. Pay attention to that part of your bloodline, find fun from it and make life better. This is the purpose of our life.
