Putian city belongs to the middle of Fujian.

Putian City is located in the mountainous and hilly area along the central coast of Fujian, on the west bank of Taiwan Strait, bordering Fuzhou, the provincial capital, in the north and Xiamen Gate in the south. It is located between118 27'-119 39' and 24 59'-25 46' north latitude.

Putian City borders Fuqing City in the northeast, Yongtai County and Dehua County in the northwest, Yongchun County, Nan 'an City and Hui 'an County in the southwest, Taiwan Province Strait in the southeast, Xinghua Bay, Wanping Bay and Meizhou Bay in the east and south respectively, and it is only 70 nautical miles away from Taichung Port.
