What to do if you lose your passport and visa?
Losing your passport and visa seems to be an old topic, but it always happens to people around you. Here are the steps on what to do if you lose your passport and visa.
When does a passport need to be reissued
First, let’s take a look at the circumstances under which a passport needs to be reissued:
1. The passport is valid for less than one year;
2. The passport is about to run out of visa pages;
3. There are children in the passport and the passport needs to be held separately;
4. Appearance changes Larger;
5. Other circumstances recognized by the Chinese Embassy and Consulate in Canada;
6. The passport is lost.
The most common ones are the first and last situations! Children, remember to check the expiration date of your passport when you are fine, because the maximum validity period of many visa applications generally does not exceed the expiration date of the passport. For example: the passport you applied for renewal is about to expire, and then the visa that could have been renewed for a long time was only renewed for a few months.
Procedures for lost passports and visas
1. Try to find copies of the lost passports and visas.
Copies of passports, visas, etc. can reduce a lot of unnecessary trouble in the subsequent self-rescue process and better cooperate with the staff to improve work efficiency. If you can't find a copy, it's best to find the visa number/Client ID.
2. Report the crime to your nearest police station (RCMP).
Use Google and other map software to search for the RCMP office closest to you, and provide the staff with the documents you have, such as driver's license, student ID card, etc. Explain the process of losing your passport truthfully. The staff will then give you a Case Number, which must be kept as it will be used when applying for a new certificate later.
On the one hand, the purpose of reporting a crime is to allow the police to help see if someone has picked up the passport and handed it over to the police station. On the other hand, it is to prevent bad elements from stealing the passport and committing illegal acts. If it is done at the police station If you have proof of loss, you don’t have to worry.
3. Reissue a visa
Most people’s visas are in their passports, so passports and visas are often lost at the same time. Go to the Immigration Canada website to download the required forms for re-application. After completing the forms as required, attach the case number when reporting the case, copies of the original passport and original visa. Send the above information to the Canadian Immigration Processing Center in person or by mail. It is recommended to send it in person, which can reduce the time for reissue and prevent unnecessary trouble caused by the letter being lost in the mail.
