Where is the source of the Pearl River?

The source of the Pearl River is the Xijiang River at the northern foot of Maxiong Mountain in Zhanyi County, Yunnan Province.

The main stream of Xijiang River flows through Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi and Guangdong provinces (regions) and flows into the South China Sea at Modaomen Waterway in Guangdong, with a total length of 22 14 km and an average river slope of 0.45‰. The drainage area above Sixianjiao is about 353 120 square kilometers. Above the Sanjiangkou of Shilong in Xiangzhou County, Guangxi, it is the upstream, from Sanjiangkou to Wuzhou City as the middle reaches, from Wuzhou to Sixianjiao in Sanshui County, Guangdong Province as the downstream, and from Sixianjiao to Modaomen Qishi as the estuary section.

The Pearl River, also known as the Yuejiang River, is the second largest river in China and the third largest river in China.

The Pearl River originally refers to a 96-kilometer-long waterway from Guangzhou to the estuary. It was named after the famous Haizhu Island (Stone), and later it gradually became the general name of the rivers in Xijiang, Dongjiang, Beijiang and Pearl River Delta. The Pearl River originates from Maxiong Mountain in Wumeng Mountain of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, flows through six provinces in central and western China and northern Vietnam, and flows into the South China Sea from eight downstream estuaries.

In 20 12, the researchers of the Institute of Remote Sensing Application of Chinese Academy of Sciences used satellite remote sensing technology to measure the length and basin area of the Pearl River, and obtained accurate data, and determined that the Pearl River was the second largest river in China.

The annual runoff of the Pearl River is more than 330 billion cubic meters, ranking second in the national water system, second only to the Yangtze River, seven times that of the Yellow River and 10 times that of the Huaihe River. With a total length of 2,320 kilometers and a drainage area of 453,690 square kilometers (including 442 100 square kilometers in China and 0/590 square kilometers in Viet Nam), it is the largest water system in southern China and the third longest river in China.

There are 774 rivers in the Pearl River system, with a total length of more than 36,000 kilometers. The rich rivers and numerous tributaries have brought superior conditions to the shipping industry of the Pearl River, and its shipping value is second only to that of the Yangtze River. The Pearl River system is rich in hydropower resources, and famous hydropower hubs such as Tianshengqiao, Datengxia, Lubuge and Xinfengjiang all belong to the Pearl River system.

The Pearl River basin covers a vast area, mostly mountains and hills, accounting for 94.5% of the total area. The plain area is small and scattered, accounting for only 55%, and the Pearl River Delta plain is relatively large. The Pearl River Basin is rich in tourism resources, and the famous Huangguoshu Waterfall and Guilin Mountain Water are all in the Pearl River Basin.
