Human geography of Peiai Town

The Paiai Old Man’s Courtyard was built by the predecessors of Paiai to worship “Boai”, the founder of Kaiai. It is a courtyard used to worship the ancestors. Its functions are equivalent to those in Fujian, Taiwan and other places. "Mazu Temple". According to records, it was built in the middle of the Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in the first month of the ninth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty.

According to legend, a long time ago, there were not many people living in Peiai (Boai) (formerly Lao Peiai), and we don’t know what the place was called. At that time, there was only one family living at the intersection leading to the river. There were only two people in this family, a father and a daughter. The daughter's name was "Ai". Because Peiai was the best place in ancient times for the land route from southeastern Yunnan to Guangdong and Guangxi to switch from water to Guangdong. Therefore, many merchants used horse packs to transport their goods here and then transported them by ship to Guangdong and Guangxi by water, or by ship. Goods were transported here from Guangdong and Guangxi by waterway, and then transferred to land and transported by horseback to Funing, Guangnan, Kaihua (today's Wenshan) and other places (including officials from Yunnan and Guangxi provinces, all came here as a transit station). People who come here to change their way have to stay at "Ai"'s house to take shelter from the rain or stay overnight when it rains or gets late. "Ai" father and daughter are also willing to receive and help guests, so they are highly respected by past businessmen. According to the custom of our Zhuang people, "Ai"'s father is respectfully called "Bai" by outsiders (a homophonic pronunciation in Zhuang language). When people who had been here went back and talked, they all used the honorific "fraternity" for the father of "love" as a synonym for the place name. Over time, "fraternity" naturally became the place name here. Since Boai (Piai) is an important place for land to water routes, many merchants have set up transfer stations here to facilitate business. Some people who are good at seizing business opportunities also come here to find opportunities, some set up shops and some set up stores. Some operate daily groceries, some open restaurants, and some open horse shops (hotels) to serve passing merchants and caravans. Later, more and more people came here to do business, and Boai became a well-known distribution center for rural commodities. In order to express their respect for "fraternity" and to let future generations always remember the founder of fraternity (Piai), the ancestors specially built the "Old Man's Court", in which a sacrificial tablet for "fraternity" was erected. The ancestors came to worship. This sacrificial activity has been passed down from generation to generation to this day.
