Historical legends of Beigao Town

When Emperor Zhengde of the Ming Dynasty visited Wuhou Mountain, he walked down the mountain from the northern foot to a village. It was a hot day, and Lord Zhengde was exhausted from all the hard work and was very hungry. When he saw a well here, he drank water to quench his thirst. He felt that the water in the well was cool, sweet and delicious, so he enthusiastically named the well "Fujing". From then on, the villagers named the village "Fukui". Around the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, people from all over came to Fukui to buy and sell goods, and a small market gradually formed.

Subsequently, the Fukui Small Market was unknowingly moved to the vicinity of the "Kaiwen Yuan" (built in the 15th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty) at the foot of Kunlun Mountain, four miles to the west. There is a Bangzhi tree in front of the academy, which is lush and green all year round. It has leaves but no flowers. It is said that the leaves can cure intestinal diseases. The trade bazaar that was carried on the shoulders was close to Bangzhishu, and the business was increasingly prosperous. Over time, people set up pergolas around it, and then built straw or reed huts, forming a small street, known as "street", and the shops there were also called "street stores" (homophones with "jiantou stores" in Putian dialect). Jindun Huang family accounts for one-fifth. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Huang Guosui, the 18th generation grandson of Taishi Huangfu of Huangshi Jindun in Putian, a Confucian businessman, moved to Huangzhai, a street shop in Xingfuli. His descendants lived by the river and in Tingfeng.
