Which country spans four hemispheres: east, west, north, and south?

The Pacific island nation of Kiribati spans four hemispheres: east, west, north and south.

Kiribati is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The country is composed of 33 islands (21 of which have permanent residents), which belong to three major archipelagos: Gilbert Islands, Phoenix Islands and Line Islands. From Christmas Island in the east to Barnaba Island in the west, it is spread over 3,800 kilometers of waters on the equator and has the world's largest marine protected area.

Kiribati consists of Barnaba Island, Gilbert Islands, Phoenix Islands and Line Islands. The Gilbert Islands are located to the west of 180 degrees longitude and belong to the Eastern Hemisphere; the Phoenix Islands and Line Islands are located at 180 degrees longitude. Edom belongs to the Western Hemisphere. At the same time the equator crosses Kiribati.

Kiribati is one of the least developed countries in the world and the only country in the world that crosses the equator and crosses the intersection of the international date line. The Line Islands to which it belongs is the only place in the world that uses the UTC+14 time zone, which also makes Kiribati the earliest country in the world to start the day. As sea levels rise due to global warming, seawater threatens to flood the country.
