How to renew the permanent residence in Australia when it expires? Australian immigrants

A permanent residence visa is usually valid for five years. After five years, you need to renew it to maintain your permanent residence status. The requirements for updating are the same. The renewal of permanent residence visa is actually to apply for 155 or 157 visa (you can apply for 155 or 157 visa as long as you are in one of the following identities).

1, you are a permanent resident of Australia;

2. You are a former Australian permanent resident, and your permanent resident status has not been cancelled;

You are a former Australian citizen.

As long as one of the following three conditions is met, you can get a 155 resident return visa:

1. You have lived for two years in the past five years.

2. You have not lived in Australia for five years in the past five years, but you have made substantial commercial, cultural, employment or personal contributions to Australia. For example, you have investment in Australia or you have commercial shares, and the business has been operating; Or cultural ties, including literature, art, sports and religion; Or you are employed by Australian enterprises and institutions and sent overseas; Or living overseas but the spouse is an Australian citizen, or holding personal property in Australia is beneficial to Australia.

3. You have not lived for five years in the past five years, but your immediate family members hold a 155 visa or meet the requirements of a 155 visa.

You can apply for a 157 visa as long as you have lived for at least one day in the past five years.

Validity of 155 and 157:

If you have lived for two years in the past five years, you can apply for an Australian resident visa valid for five years.

If you apply for a visa for Australian residents to return to Australia based on personal relationship, the visa is valid for one year.

If the immediate family members meet the requirements of the 155 visa, the visa is valid for one year or less.

If you apply for a visa for Australian residents to return to Australia 157, the visa is valid for three months.

In short, Australia has immigration supervision, but it is more relaxed. We can't compare Canada or other countries, nor can different countries. If you have lived for two years in five years, congratulations! You can successfully get a permanent residence visa for the next five years. If you haven't lived enough, and you have lived in your family for two years, you can also renew it smoothly, valid for one year, but it doesn't matter, because you can renew it for the same reason after one year, as long as your family's permanent residence status is valid. If the whole family has not lived for two years, it is ok to provide the above evidence that Australia is beneficial to Australia. The visa is valid for one year and can be renewed for the same reason after one year, no problem.

What if I can't do the above three points? What should we do?

There are two ways to do this:

1. Before the expiration of the permanent residence visa, you can apply for a 157 visa even if you have lived for one day. 157 The visa is valid for three months. Before the expiration of three months, you can apply for the next three months for the same reason. Go on, as long as you have lived for two years in the past five years, you can renew your 155 visa.

2. Before the permanent residence visa expires, or even the day before, you landed in Australia and lived in Australia all the time. You can't leave the country because your permanent residence visa has expired, but it doesn't matter. You don't need 155 or 157 as long as you live in Australia. After living in Australia for two years within five years, you are eligible to apply for a 155 visa.

The application for 155 or 157 can be made at the Australian or Australian consulate in China.
