A guide to new immigrants entering Canada
1. Entry procedures in Canada
1. Fill in the customs declaration form on the plane and fill in L copies for the whole family. You can ask the waiter to fill it out for you. Before the plane lands, the crew will report the weather and temperature on the ground and prepare their own clothes properly.
2. After the plane stops, pack your carry-on luggage and follow the crowd into the airport lobby in an orderly manner.
3. Accept Canadian immigration inspection
(1) When getting off the plane in Vancouver, they will be welcomed by "Community Adaptation and Airport Reception for New Immigrants" (CANN), which can provide multilingual services to help them enter the newly added immigration inspection channel;
(2) After showing your passport and immigrant visa, you will be told to queue up at the new entry-exit inspection office on the right;
(3) In the new immigration inspection office, Canadian immigration officers verify their identities. The whole process is as short as 5- 10 minutes and as long as 30-60 minutes. If you don't understand the immigration officer's questions, you can seek Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) translation help;
The questions asked by the immigration officer include: "Have you been to Canada before?" "Have you ever had a criminal record?" "Has your marriage and children changed?" . When you ask "How much money did you bring", you should answer truthfully according to the amount in Item 8 of the application form (generally, random inspection is not allowed); When asked, "Are there any items for subsequent consignment?" You should answer truthfully.
(4) After verifying the identity, the immigration officer will ask everyone to sign their respective immigration documents. The signature must be in pinyin, with a name and surname, and the accompanying children should be signed by the principal applicant. After that, the immigration officer stamped the entry stamp on the passport, and handed in the social insurance card application form and other resettlement information kits to properly keep these materials.
4. Claim the baggage, remove the checked baggage from the baggage conveyor belt of the relevant airline and put it on the cart.
5. Customs inspection. Carry all checked baggage and hand-held articles, show your passport, immigrant visa and customs declaration form to the customs inspectors for inspection. Prepare two lists, one for personal belongings and the other for goods to be shipped. Items are generally not checked out of the box, and usually only X-rays and police inspections are made to prevent drugs.
6. If you need to transfer, leave the quarantine area and enter the airport lobby to check in in Toronto (or elsewhere) and check your luggage.
7. Be careful when you arrive at your destination and leave the airport. Don't panic and wait patiently if the relatives and friends who pick you up don't arrive. If you want to make a public phone call, don't let strangers look after your luggage. Bags containing valuables such as documents and money must be carried with you. In addition, change some small Canadian dollars at the airport.
Note: Because China immigrants may like to carry a lot of cash abroad, some criminal groups commit crimes specifically for this purpose. There have been several incidents of valuables stolen from China immigrants at Vancouver Airport. So the funds are brought to Canada by bank wire transfer or purchase of draft.

3. Canadian tax declaration channels
Telefile and Netfile have the advantages of convenience and quickness. But taxpayers need to have the access code given by the tax bureau. After your first tax return, the Inland Revenue Department will start to have your tax return records, and the Inland Revenue Department will send this code to your home from June 5438 to 10 every year. Generally speaking, it is not necessary to attach any supporting documents, such as vouchers or receipts, to file tax returns by telephone or online, unless the Inland Revenue Department has special requirements. The tax bureau usually issues an assessment notice and a tax refund form two weeks later.
Mail tax return is the most primitive tax return method, that is, the amount of each item is manually filled in the personal tax form (T 1General) used for tax return. There is still room for revision after the form is filled in, which is very suitable for new immigrants with simple tax return items and first-time tax return.
I'd like to remind you that taxpayers have the responsibility to keep financial and tax data for six years in case the Inland Revenue Department can review them at any time.
How to collect tax bills
Personal tax forms T 1General for filing tax returns are usually available at the post office. If the taxpayer has submitted the tax return by mail, the tax bureau will send the tax return according to the address provided by the taxpayer within the annual tax return period. In addition, some public libraries also provide tax bills for the current year, and all kinds of tax bills are provided in the office of the tax bureau and its website. If you use online tax returns and software tax returns, you don't need a tax bill.
If the applicant's address changes, it should be notified to the Canadian Taxation Bureau as soon as possible, so as not to miss the notice of tax refund from the Taxation Bureau.
Who needs to file tax returns?
Many people think it is Canadian immigrants or citizens who need to file tax returns. In fact, as long as you live in Canada and have income from wages, bank interest and investment in stocks and real estate, you need to file tax returns.
New immigrants must file tax returns, even if they have little or no income. Because buying a house, spending money, having children, etc. can be refunded. And the tax bill returned by the government is an important text for your residence record, applying for children's milk money and domestic relatives' guarantee.
If you just immigrated to Canada, you still have no income, or your income is lower than the government's allowance (in 2007, Ontario's allowance was $53, while the federal allowance was $00), the government also encourages you to file tax returns, because any Canadian resident has to apply for a refund of federal sales tax (GSTCredit, everyone can get a 6/ year, and people without income may get a GST refund), as well as a refund of provincial sales tax (Ontario's exemption).
In addition, families applying for child welfare and supplementary payments, also known as milk money, have to file tax returns, because the government determines the amount of milk money for the next year according to your tax payment this year. Tax returns can also be used to deduct the tuition fees you paid for studying in Canada from your normal income in the next few years. The tax return of that year is also the necessary supporting document for you to apply for family members to supplement.
Tax declaration of hangers and overseas assets
Quite a few immigrants from China may have husbands or wives who belong to trapeze artists. If one of the husband and wife or children lives in Canada and I have a Canadian certificate but live overseas for a long time, according to the regulations, I need to file tax returns in Canada.
Family members living overseas need to submit tax returns in their current country before returning to Canada. There is a tax treaty between Canada and China. If you work in China and have paid taxes in China, you only need to pay the difference between Canada and China.
