Where is Ningcheng?

In the Ming Dynasty, "Daning" was located in Ningcheng County, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, and Zhu Quan, the son of Zhu Yuanzhang 17, was made king of Ning in Daning.

Daningcheng Site is located in Daming Town, southwest of Ningcheng County, Inner Mongolia, with seven old Tushan in the west, Nuruhur Mountain in the east and Laoha River in the south of Xiliaohe River. Daning controls the upper reaches of Liaohe River in the north, borders Daling River basin in the east, Fu Xuan in the west and Yanshan Great Wall in the south, which has a very important strategic position.

The upper reaches of Liaohe River where Daning is located belong to semi-arid climate, which is suitable for agriculture and animal husbandry. In history, grassland nationalities went south, and Central Plains immigrants often met here, thus forming a mixed economic zone or cultural zone. In a long historical period, it was the focus of the struggle between the southern grassland tribes and the Central Plains dynasty, which contained profound historical connotations.

About two-thirds of people in Ningcheng County speak dialects, and people in its surrounding areas call it Ningcheng Dialect. Ningcheng dialect is a typical dialect island phenomenon. Ningcheng dialect belongs to Jilu Mandarin language family.

Since most of the Han people in Ningcheng County are descendants of Shandong immigrants in the middle and late Qing Dynasty, if they are divided into Shandong dialects, the pronunciation of Ningcheng dialect should belong to Xiqi piece of Shandong dialect.

People in the east of Ningcheng and other parts of Chifeng generally speak of northeastern mandarin with a western Liaoning accent. Ningcheng dialect is mainly used in the middle, west and north of Ningcheng, among which Balihan Town in the middle of Ningcheng County and its surrounding areas have the purest accent.

Since the reform and opening up, the survival of Ningcheng dialect has been severely challenged by the country's vigorous promotion of Putonghua, except that the accents of residents in the east and south of Ningcheng County are close to Putonghua, and there has been no obvious change. It is difficult for young people in the central, western and northern areas of Ningcheng County (that is, the main areas where Ningcheng dialect is used) to speak a relatively pure Ningcheng dialect.
