Indian Sikkim immigrants
These two small countries are Sikkim and East Timor. 1975, two countries disappeared in the world, one is Sikkim in South Asia and the other is East Timor in Southeast Asia. The fate of these two countries is the same, both are small. East Timor has only 1 0.5 million square kilometers and a population of more than110,000. Sikkim is even smaller, with only 7,000 square kilometers and a population of more than 600,000.
Even though both small countries are small, their fate is still bitter, because they are both attracted by their neighbors. India believes that Sikkim's strategic position is very important, so it will annex Sikkim at all costs. The same is true of East Timor. Neighboring Indonesia looks at East Timor and wants to incorporate it into the territory. And both neighboring countries are big countries with large populations.
India has a land area of 3 million square kilometers, with a population of 65.438+0.36 billion, and Indonesia has a population of 260 million, with a land area of 65.438+0.9 million. For Sikkim and East Timor, they are both behemoths. 1975, it seems that the two countries made an appointment and both invaded their neighbors in this year. India turned Sikkim into the 22nd state, while Indonesia turned East Timor into the 27th province and became a part of the country.
It can be said that the fate of these two countries is still the same. But up to now, the results are quite different. East Timor succeeded in rejuvenating the country and re-becoming an independent country through its own efforts in 2002, but Sikkim is still suffering under the rule of India, and there is no hope for national rejuvenation in the future.
Then the question is, why was it annexed? East Timor became independent and revived, but why didn't Sikkim? There are three main reasons: First, disappointing. After India annexed Sikkim, Sikkim never resisted because of its small population and weak strength. Even riots and wars do not exist. Typically, they failed to live up to expectations, didn't want to be independent, and didn't have the consciousness and ability to resist.
Second, the demographic structure has changed. Now the population structure of Sikkim has changed because of Indian immigrants. Indians surpassed Sikkim, Sikkim became a minority, and the resistance was even smaller. Third, there is no foreign aid. The key to East Timor's independence is the help and assistance of foreign forces, such as China.
However, Sikkim is now strictly controlled by India, and there is no foreign aid, so there is almost no chance to restore national independence. Therefore, it is difficult for Sikkim to be independent now, and it can only continue to suffer under the control of India, while East Timor has got rid of suffering and become an independent country.
