The geographical environment of Gaochun dialect

Gaochun is located at the southern end of Nanjing City, formerly Gaochun County. In February 2013, with the approval of the State Council and the Provincial Government, Gaochun County was abolished and Gaochun District of Nanjing City was established. The administrative area of ??the original Gaochun County was the administrative area of ??Gaochun District of Nanjing City.

Nanjing has developed transportation, but Gaochun is relatively closed in geographical location, and the transportation is not as good as that of Suzhou and Changchun. It has been little affected by northern immigrants and Mandarin pronunciation in the past dynasties. Therefore, it has preserved the medieval dialect better than other general Wu dialect areas. Due to the closed geographical environment, Gaochun dialect is less affected by immigrants and Mandarin pronunciation. Now, like many dialects, Gaochun dialect is still threatened by the invasion of Mandarin.

Gaochun and Lishui to the north of Gaochun (limited to the south of Lishui County) belong to the Wu language family area of ??Nanjing City, and the main language in Nanjing urban area belongs to the Jianghuai Mandarin family. The Gaochun dialect belongs to Wu dialect, Taigao Xiaopian in the Xuanzhou dialect and Piling Xiaopian in the Taihu dialect. There are still big differences between the different dialects in the Xuanzhou dialect.
