Why does English in the UK have a different accent than in the US?

The difference in spoken pronunciation between the UK and the US is very obvious. Geographic separation accounts for this difference. From the time the colonists arrived in North America, the pronunciation of words began to differ from the British. This differentiation is normal. Because the direct contact between the residents of the two places is limited to texts and other printed matter, and there are relatively few direct conversations.
