2. Stamp the temporary green card.

When you enter the United States with an immigrant visa, the immigration officer will stamp your passport as a temporary proof of your permanent resident status. When your I-485 is approved, you will get the same signature at the local office of the Immigration Bureau. The temporary green card signature can be used for work or overseas travel and is valid for 1 year. You can apply for an extension until you receive a real green card by mail.

At some international airports, immigration inspectors at entry points will ask immigrants with temporary green card signatures for further verification. Therefore, you'd better take a copy of your immigrant visa application (I- 130 or I- 140) with you.

Generally speaking, during the period of 1 year, your stay abroad will not exceed 6 months, and there will be no problems. If you stay abroad for more than 6 months and less than 1 year, the Immigration Bureau will think that you have the intention to give up your permanent resident status. In fact, immigration may not find out, but once they find out that you don't actually live in the United States, they will expel you.

If you expect to stay abroad for more than 65,438+0 years, you should apply for re-entry permit in advance, which is valid for 2 years. If you can't return to the United States before the re-entry permit expires, or if you didn't apply for a re-entry permit before you left the United States, but stayed outside the United States for more than 65,438+0 years, you may be able to obtain a special resident visa for returning to the State Council.

5. You can apply for the naturalization test five years after getting the green card, and you can submit the application form 90 days in advance.
