Civilization 4 - Graphical Guide to the City Management Interface
The game Colonial Empire has performed very well under the Civ4 engine, but it is not easy to get started. As an old C4 player, after experiencing the colonial empire for a day, let me first share some ideas and post a graphic guide to get started. It mainly includes the introduction of urban interior affairs and European interface.
In the city management interface, for veteran civilized players, the most important thing is to understand the "attributes" and "specialties" of each population. Others are not difficult to understand.
In the colonial empire, each population has its own attributes (Unit Type). The attributes mainly include the following categories:
1 Free Colonist, free immigration. This is the most ordinary population, with no special skills, and work output can be regarded as a standard value.
2 Indentured Servant, indentured servant. The ability to produce raw materials (such as grain, cotton, and wood) is equivalent to that of free immigrants, but the ability to produce industrial products (such as cloth, cigars) and spiritual items (crosses, freedom bells) is slightly lower than that of free immigrants.
3 Petty Criminal, criminal. The performance is even worse when producing spiritual items, otherwise they are the same as indentured servants.
4 Experts. Experts are units with special powerful abilities, mainly including raw material experts (Expert) who can enhance land output, factory masters (Master) who can quickly transform raw materials into finished products, and spiritual experts (high priests, revolutionaries, missionaries) soldiers, etc.), as well as some veterans, scouts and other military skill experts.
5 Converted Native, the converted native Indian. They know little about modern civilization, but they deal with nature all day long. Such units are more capable of producing raw materials than free immigrants, but their ability to produce other products is weaker than that of free immigrants.
Where did these populations come from?
Unlike Civ4, the largest source of population in the colonial empire is European immigrants, not native ones (especially in the early stages). You need to use ships to bring various immigrants (including free immigrants, experts, slaves and criminals) from the home country to the new continent to join your city for construction. The way Europe produces immigrants is illustrated in the diagram below.
The second source is the transformation of indigenous people, which depends on missionaries. Add a missionary to an indigenous village (create a mission), and a converted indigenous person will emerge from this village every once in a while.
The third largest source is local newborns. When they come out, they are all free immigrants. In the colonial empire, the natural growth of the population is relatively slow, and it takes 200 grains to produce new people.
Experts are a good thing. On the same water grid with fish, the work of free immigrants can produce 7 fish, while the expert fisherman (Expert Fisherman) can produce 13 fish, feeding 3 more people! So the more experts we have, the better. .
How to obtain experts? There are four sources:
1 Immigrants from Europe. Some experts themselves want to show off their skills in the new world.
2 Buy from Europe.
3 The unit went to the indigenous villages to receive re-education from poor and lower-middle peasants, and they became experts after graduation. You can take a common unit such as free immigrants and go to the indigenous villages. If the indigenous leader has a good enough relationship with you, he will let your people live and eat with them and teach him certain skills. Most of these skills are agricultural skills, such as growing tobacco and cutting wood. After a while, your free immigrant completes his studies and when he returns from the village, he is already a master of agriculture:)
4 Trained by the school. Each city can build its own schoolhouse and upgrade it to college or even university. The higher the school level, the shorter the education cycle.
Free immigrants, slaves, prisoners, and indigenous people can all be sent to school to study. After a period of time, they graduate. At this time, the computer will let you choose what field the graduate will become an expert in. Please note that only the types of experts included in the current city are possible in the options. For example, you can't make your graduates a great carpenter if there are no great carpenters (masters who turn wood into hammers) in the city.
Also note that various people have different learning abilities. Free immigrants learn the fastest and prisoners learn the slowest.
It must be reminded that the attribute (Unit Type) of each population and the profession (Profession) he engages in are two different things.
Attributes are the innate nature of this population, just like some people are born suitable for farm work, and some are born suitable for engineers. Occupation refers to the job that this population is currently engaged in. Theoretically, anyone with any attributes can do any job.
For example, you can ask a person with the attribute of fishing expert to work in a cigarette factory. At this time, his occupation is cigarette worker. Of course, this is very humiliating, because his ability when rolling cigarettes is the same as that of free immigrants, without any bonus. His expertise was wasted. Therefore, players should try their best to arrange experts to do jobs consistent with their expertise.
For another example, if we want to transform the terrain around the city, we need a population to engage in land reclamation (Pioneer) work. There are prisoners, free immigrants, and fishing experts in your city. At this time, the prisoner should definitely be allowed to open up wasteland, because his contribution in the city is very little, so it is better to go outside the city to make contributions. In pursuing the profession of Pioneer, there is no difference in his abilities from those of a free immigrant or a fishing expert.
Of course, a better situation is to let a population with the attribute Hardy Pioneer (how to translate it? Pioneer) engage in land reclamation work. Because this kind of expert is born to fight against heaven and earth, the efficiency of clearing wasteland in the wild is twice as high as that of people with other attributes.
